Hat sightings in Japan

It figures that fedoras would become popular in Japan shortly after I leave. It's no surprise though, because the Japanese have a great eye for quality and class. I got into watches and fountain pens in Japan and was able to learn quickly because of the abundance and enthusiasm there. Had it been in the US, most of my experience would be via the Internet.

d'guy, looking at these great pictures, of a land that I would love to visit, I get a sense that shorter brimmed fedoras are more plentiful that wider brimmed?

yes, Sir, it does seem that historically 2" or so has been the norm. The british style perhaps had a greater influence, although American hat makers (Knox) had a greater market share. Post war, the wider brimmed American hats did`nt make it in Japan as the post war years were rather tough on economics of the average person. Knox, by the way, is still made under licence, and that hat I would say is a Knox...
