I'm heading there on Friday, so I'm all ears if anyone happens to have a recommendation. At the very least, I'm hoping to score some Irish caps in their native habitat. ;)

Cheers,
JtL

There's a Blarney Woolen Mills store across from Trinity College that'll have tweed caps (trying to remember the street...Kildare St?). And there are many tourist shops near O'Connell Bridge in downtown Dub that'll have tweed caps.

They also carry blackthorn sticks. :D

When I was in Dublin last, about 3 years ago, Kevin & Howlin had a zillion caps. The place is just about Eldorado for caps and tweedy stuff in general. Were it not for the call of the fresh Guinness on every corner I'd have spent a day in K&H's shop.

That shop is a hoot! I remember it well.

Jimmy, I recommend trying a Smithwick's on tap. I preferred it to the Guinness. Have an awesome trip.

The problem with that, Randooch, is that if I have a Smithwick's, I will probably then need to have a Guinness in order to compare the two. Since that comparison is likely to be inconclusive, it means that I would have to repeat the process several times in order to reach a meaningful result.

OK -- now that I think of it, there's no problem there at all! :D

:cheers1:

Thanks for the well-wishes, gents!

Blackthorn -- great tip, since I will be visiting Trinity College to see the Book of Kells and will definitely be in that neighborhood.

Boodles -- thanks! I will make a point to seek out Kevin & Howlin, as well.

Cheers,
JtL

If you're going to have Jamesons or Bushmills, you've got to give Redbreast a try.
Absolutely! As I recall, all I came back with was a 12-year-old Redbreast and a sweater from the Aran Islands (a worthwhile side trip).

Oh, and ride atop the double-decker bus! Surprising how many architectural details present themselves at that height.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

If I understand right, it's good to be high in Dublin.

Jimmy, I would second Boodles' suggestion. I bought a beautiful Donegal tweed suit and cap at K and H about 7-8 years ago. Enjoy the trip, Dublin is a lovely city and the people are great. Check out some of the smaller pubs for some great local music. Warning though, they do like Country and Western over there too.

And STAY AWAY from any alcohol! (not).

Can any of you direct me to Kevin & Howlin? I may have walked right by it numerous times, but I've never heard of. Where exactly is the store? Eventually I'll get back there, and I'd love to browse that store.
