I am going to have a new heating coil made for my brim press/sand bag/flange bag/what ever it may be called it you neck of the woods/ and was going to let any of the other hatters here get in on it. should have a price soon.

Also, as I have already partially rebuilt my brim press, rebuilt my heated stretcher, and am probably soon going to be rebuilding my crown iron, I am thinking I will start rebuilding equipment for others. I have also designed, and had made my own steamer heads, one for crowns, one for brims, and one for shaping. I have also repaired blocks and flanges.

Any of you with equipment that is broken, I may be interested in purchasing it, as there is still some things I am looking for myself.

I will get pictures of the steam heads up if anyone is interested.

I'm interested JP..keep me posted or email me when you get things together. John, this is a fancier version of two I have. Several years ago I bought the remains of a hat shop in Mass that had simple spinners along with the chamber used. Had it set up for a while and will again soon. Great idea about the clothes dryer element. Where did you find the riostat and what made you pick 1500 watt?

Thanks John, I am rewiring one of my crown irons and just faced that question in the last few days. The electical company near me didn't offer that idea!! Now I see how I can hard wire the iron and be comfortable with it.

Why don't you do so!!

Sorry guys,
why don't you use a thermostat instead of a reostat?
The thermostat could keep the right temperature you set in.
It is,also, less expensive than a reostat and you could be sure that the temperature never became too hight!!!
A reostat never swicht off when the temperature is right, it is only good to limit the electric current, but the temperature go on until you swicht off the machine!!!

My english isn't very good, but i can ensure you that this method is better!!!

what are the carboard stays called that are used inside the hatboxes?

and, can anyone direct me to a source by any chance..

Great. I have a few machines and have them pretty well sorted out. Need to get them all repaired and need motors as well.
