Josh; Thanks. I spent some enjoyable time last evening reading the scaned magazine and glancing at the pics. I liked the article about open selling and the feature about selling hats to the "youth." Very enjoyable.

I appreciate your efforts. Cheers. Eric -

The one article shows alarm at the idea of a clothing advertiser not having their models wearing or holding a hat. the 1950 time frame must have been the beginnings of the general societal trend towards less hat wearing. The hat trade in 1950 was freaking out!

Page 26: "He finally concludes that hats just don't look good on young fellows, and goes back to hatlessness."

Oh my! :eeek:

Thank you!

Hmm, reading pages 26 and 27, I'm actually agreeing a bit with their philosophy for young men (about my age group, from late teens, to early or mid 20s) wearing lower crowned hats. I think in general, lower crowned hats can suit more features. Higher crowns strike as something an older person (but not necessarily too much older than the young crowd), could pull off better regardless of facial features. Just my opinion.

Thanks, Dude! Interesting article about capturing the youth market. It appears hats were starting their decline in the early 50's.

According to Robert Duran (of Doran Bros. manufacturing) the hat industry peaked in 1903. At that time, the US had a population of about 80 million and was making almost 48 million men's fur felt hats a year.

+10 on the thanks for posting this. I would have posted earlier, but I've been too busy with "right click", "save".

Me too Josh my issue is over 70 pages long with lost of stuff in it. I was able to get up to page 57 last night. Takes quite a bit of time to scan these in right.

It sure does! Thanks for scanning in your issue. I like the 30's stuff much more than 40's and 50's, so your edition was VERY interesting to me.

Yes there are some great hats in it. The fur brim straw was just crazy. An I have never seen a hat with the crease on the side like a number of hats in my issue.

For those who would like a pdf of this Hat Life I made a pdf of it that you can get here:
