It's a 'Traveller'/'Packer', by the look of the sweatband-

OK, I guess it is a crappy one- never mind...

The 'Delete this Post' facility seems to have disappeared...
Nope- it's because this is the first post in a thread- bugger!

What makes it crappy?

It's hard to tell how old it is. Looks to be in good shape. I don't own a modern Traveler, but have read several times that among their current models, it's more highly thought of.

Crappy is as crappy does. If it suits your needs and purpose then I think its a good hat.
I have a Country Gentleman lite felt that is surely on the bottom rungs of the ladder but as a general use hat that stands up to all kinds of abuse, its a good hat.
By the way I think the hat looks real good, with a little shapeing it can be a fine lid, one that you can wear with too much concern.

I am failing to see the "crappiness" If its a Traveler then re-block should be easy (as I understand it) If not then a bit more effort might be in order. Any idea on the age? Size? stats... etc.

The hat is fairly new , probably within the last ten years . Wear it in good health .

This one does not need to be flushed

It is not "crappy". It is a "Traveller" hat, in that you are supposed to be able to roll it up and place it in your suitcase for those instances while out and the weather changes, and you need a felt hat. Ie, the straw can't take the rain, so you whip out the traveller hat. As a consequence, the hat is not as, er, sturdy? as the "regular" blocked felt hats.

That is why it has an elastic or cloth sweat, and no liner. It looks nice from the pics.
