So what do I need to get to take care of my Hats. I have a panama hat from panama bob, one paper cotton fedora, and two felt fedoras? I know I need something to rest my hats on. Where can I get cheap hat rests. I can find some for $6 and they seem good.

Do I also need a brush and sponge and such. Or is it a good idea to just send it out like every year. Can I send it out, if so where?
Thanks for the help guys,
Dave

It looks like you are on the right path already. I don't know what a paper, cloth fedora is so I can't comment on that. As to the straw, you need to take it into the bathroom with you about once a month and let the steam from the shower settle on it. Then store it upside down, that is on its crown. If you had hat boxes with it use them. Same for the felt fedoras except for the steaming in the bathroom. Store them upside down with the brim snapped up. Again use your hat boxes if you have them. A nice hat brush is good and a sponge is also good for cleaning lighter color hats. Hope this helps some. There is also a thread called "Ask a question, get an answer". Those folks there will give you some good guidance. Welcome aboard.:)

The hat stands for $6 are great, but if you have the hat box, it's better (keeps the dust and lint off).

I have never had need of a sponge, but a brush is a must. Get a light colored brush for light hats, dark colored brush for dark hats. Brush counter-clockwise on the top of the hat, then flip it over and brush clockwise. Gently.

You can send hats out for cleanings, but how often will depend on how dirty they get and how quickly. I have hats that are 4 years old that have never needed a cleaning. Use your best judgement.
