Hat advice/help (what is this?)

I know Mayser is German...but does anyone have any idea what this is?

Some kind of pork-pie-trilby-fedora?

Is it a male or female hat?

My understanding is that porkpie is really a much more general term than we might like to admit. Pretty much just a fedora with a telescoped crease that could be loose, or squeezed tight around the crown edges. It could be stingy or wide brimmed, and could be an oval, egg, round, or diamond shaped.

It's separated from a gambler probably because a gambler would be western weight, and is likely to have a wider, stiffer, kettle-curled brim.

Anyone feel free to butt in, but I'd say that's a nice looking Mayser overwelt porkpie you got there. I don't normally see them with a pugaree instead of a bow, but I think it looks great from here.

Looks like just a regular fedora to me. Brim is too large to be a porkpie, in my opinion. From the interior is looks like a man's hat, too. With the twist-band ribbon, it is a more casual hat, as well.

I think it could be creased as either a fedora or a porkpie based on the photos. With the lower crown a porkpie crease would be your best bet. Could be worn by male or female, but appears to be a man's hat.
It's a nice-looking hat.

Is it a flat top hat? It's hard to tell with the angle of the first photo. If so, there's a thread somewhere where Dinerman posted a bunch of them.

Since it's a Mayser, Mayserwegener would probably be helpful dating it, etc. You may have to wait until you get it to determine the best way to shape it. Looks like you got a good deal for $25.

That is a really great find! What size is it? It could be late 1950s maybe early 1960s. The crease was probably messed with and should look more like these.

The hat certainly looks much nicer in the pictures!
I have absolutely no idea about how to re-crease/bash this hat...

Supposedly it's size 58 but, as I say, I'll post more when I get it.

It was factory creased so with a good amount of steam it should assume the original shape. This Hückel Soleil, Hückel's Clipper of mine has a similar crease.

That "grizzly" black and gray is great looking!

Years ago I had an old Portis with a back bow that was camel colored and was blocked like the original gray hat in question here.
It slipped away somewhere along the line ... but it was a neat looking hat with a tweed sports coat ... nice, but not too dressy

I'd think this one could be freshened up to go with a sports coat and slacks or even with jeans.

Looks like a nice hat.

But, man, that grizzly is cool.
