Adventurebilt has the "Fortune and Glory" (IJ) fedora in Beaver listed at $250.00 plus $10.00 shipping per hat.
Not a bad price at all if you want this style hat.

I can understand wanting something "authentic". I was an antiques dealer,
and these days you can find authentic everything everywhere you turn a
stone over...the original hat-if there is such an animal-is in my view pretty
darn cool, if not exactly the hat for my head. That being said, why not take
advantage of our master hatter friends like Art-and get a hat custom-made
for our own noggin, for less moneys, and not be bombarded with "hey Indy"
everytime you cross the street. Imitation may not be the sincerest form of
flattery, after all.

My order for an AB from Steve was submitted (by which I mean paid for) some weeks ago, and while I have given him my head size and profile shots, I have yet to decide what bash I want. The main reason for this is simply because I am not even sure if I want mine to have a true "Indy" bash to it at all. My main priority was to get a beautifully hand-made beaver felt fedora.

Should Steve's involvement in the fourth film be confirmed, the temptation for me to get an Indy bash will be greater, but to be honest some of the nicest bashes I have seen have been over here, not on COW. Everyone knows my love for RBH's TVA, but I also very much like Jeff's charcoal AB, the bash of which I think gives the hat a terrific shape.

I am torn. Part of me wants to surrender the shaping of my AB over to Steve, part of me wants to ask him if he can have a go at a completely different bash (unless he's be offended by that), and part of me wants the hat open crown so I can do my own.

I'm thinking that since his hats are so durable, and should last a long time, there's really nothing stopping me from doing as Jeff has done, and sticking with an Indy bash to begin with, and then changing it later.

I'd actually quite like to see a thread over here of ABs with different bashes in them. The chance of seeing that over on COW is pretty slim - and so it should be - but anybody who has done like Jeff and rebashed their AB in a different way should group together and form another thread.

I don't know if this is OT - if it is considered so, apologies.

I think I am safe in saying Steve will do what you want. He loves making Indy hats but an Indy hat is a fedora, and he loves making fedoras!
He is great to work with and will try his best to make you happy.
It may be an open crown is what you may be looking for, like you I love the looks of Jeffs AB, who knows what great style you may come up with.

Steve stopped selling his rabbit fur fedora's quite some time ago. He only wanted to go with the best felt available and rabbit wasn't it. The Deluxe's are a bit more money but if you were to buy the same quality hat from a store it would be around $800 at least. Seriously, it would be that much. We are a bit spoiled here on the lounge with Art, Steve and Marc providing such high quality products for the price they charge. But a quick visit to other custom hatters can give one a wake up call to what a deal they are giving us.

Marc Kitter is "the other half" of Adventurebilt.

I'm not sure of the exact history, but he and Steve Delk are good pals, and learned and shared a lot while learning to make hats, and eventually teamed up sometime after Steve had launched Adventurebilt.

I think this is a good route - especially since once it comes (and the movie is out) you may say "wow, this is just like what's on-screen, I don't want to touch it".

And if it doesn't quite suite you, you can of course rebash. The only trick I've had is with moving the very sharp pinch at the top of the crease, the "triangle" if you will (I lowered it). I had to massage that a bit for the original to disappear.

BTW, thanks for the compliments on the charcoal AB. I really love it the more I wear it and the more character it takes on, and rebashing it several times to get it "just right" really did add to the sense of connectedness.

Yep Steve can do more than just Indie hats, I have had one on order for some time in grey with a more vintage look. I wanted an all beaver that would hold up well but not the Indie look. No problem at all. I agree with those before me that this announcement may be premature since we haven't heard anything from
Adventurebilt on the subject. So many rumors so little time.

That's what I'm thinking. I've got a while yet to decide what I want. I'm hoping that Steve will contact me when he is ready to put a bash in, if he hasn't heard from me.

Yeah I do like getting hats that are open crown, for me to shape myself. I have a new open crown hat to play with right now, in fact. ;)

That's true. I'm going to try putting a TVA into this new hat I just got, and once I know what I'm doing, I may well put one into my Camptown. I think I will need to fiddle about with them all and see what shape works best on each and every hat of my rapidly expanding collection. lol

Thanks RBH. My Fed Dlx has become my everyday hat. But now I have to find clothes that go with a black hat I have acquired. :D

Yeah, or at the very least, I might be feeling geeky enough that I want to have it looking SA when I go to the cinema.

I know what you mean. I wasn't happy with the position of the "node" on my Fed Dlx after the first bash, and it took some work to re-position it, because of all the (to quote Mr Swales) "cruel" pinching the hat has on it.

It really suits you too. But you have a squarer face than me (I don't have a chin at all lol), and the same bash might not look right on me. I'm going to experiment. :D
