I have that same exact style (white suede with brown gator) by Bostonian. Lotsa fun to wear those. President Truman had some AWESOME taste!

Truman didn't necessarily buy expensive clothes. He was never a wealthy man. But he liked GOOD clothes. And he took good care of them. I suspect the white bucks shown would have been worn with a linen suit, rather than seersucker. I've seen lots of pics of Washington between the teens and the 30s, and they're always wearing linen. I think the popularity for seersuecker came a little later.
Not many people know it, but Dwight Eisenhower liked nice clothes, too. When he was president, it was said he had a hundred suits in his wardrobe.
Truman, of course, had been a haberdasher for a couple of years after WW I. He ruefully referred to it as "the shirt store", in later years.

Boy, how things have changed. When he and Bess left the White House to return to his home after he left office, didn't he have to buy a car to make the drive? Who was the last president to have to do that? Again, boy, have things changed...!
