Harold Boots are a small low key business who operate mainly from word of mouth and reputation in equine related industries. Their old factory used to be around the corner from my house in Abbotsford. The place was like a time warp from the 1920's with ancient machinery and crusty old workers. They specialise in equestrian, cavalry, mounted police, polo and jockey boots as well as work boots. I used to go there and buy their seconds. Having owned both RM William's and Harold I would say Harold are now better quality than RM's and much better than the likes of Red Wings. Once upon a time RM's were better but IMO dropped their standards and Harold's have upped their work boots quality to match their specialised wares. I believe RM's are not as good as they used to be.

Harold's now have moved their factory to Vietnam which is a good thing for quality as well as price becasue there are many expert leather workers in Vietnam. Seen some great leather products over there. Will try posting pics later of my boots.

That's really fascinating. I have some comfort craftsmen. Nearly a size too small. Got tricked by the sales lady saying they stretch out nicely. They didn't. Since I discovered Whites and Wesco, I rarely wear my RMs. A good friend of mine just left RMs after about 8 years. She said the new mgt/ owners are no good. They are changing lots of designs and cost cutting etc. I don't need new ones right now anyway. Once I discovered Aero/Langlitz etc I was financially screwed for several years! They are a very good looking boot. My uncle has just built a beautiful home on acreage in Avenal. I will send him the details, I think he will like them.cheers.

I also have four pairs of White's Boots. Quality and old fashioned workmanship is comparable.

Here are my current Harold boots. The first is the super tough Gardener model, elastic sides with leather flaps, strap and buckle. Great for keeping out thorns, sharp objects, hard knocks and ....er snakebites? Made from tough brushed bull hide leather I believe and cork rubber sole. Also handy for bike riding with the extra protection and great ankle support.

The second is the Kangaroo hide dress boot model with beautiful striated patterning and superfine grain. Both outer and lining leather in Kangaroo hide and full leather sole. This pair I bought direct from the factory shop as a seconds though hard to find any faults.
Harold make only a limited range of uncompromised but functional traditional styles and as yet not into the fashion work boot marketing. They also have a full range of ladies boots. Some of their boots are made to order only. Most of their business is from country folk.

I have a pair of Gardeners, 6 years old, and a pair of graziers, 2 years old. What I like most is the screwed rubber soles which are amazingly stong and durable (it seems).
I do have some troubles getting the leather of the Gardener look nice. Do you user conditioner or saddle soap or polish? Yours look a lot more lively than mine.

Hi and welcome to The Fedora Lounge. I use Red Wings boot oil on mine. Works well and about once a year. I also have had several pairs of Red Wings boots similar in style to these. The Harold's uppers are miles better. The Red Wings elastic wears out quickly and the leather cracks up easily if they get wet. Been chucking them out with still good soles and heels.
