Yay,another gin drinker.:eusa_clap
I'm the only one among my friends and relatives who enjoys gin.Martinis in the fall/winter or gin and tonic in the spring/summer.

Have a toast to Brooksie for me as well, please!

She had her hair styled without the iconic black bob for a while, and though not bad, she seems to lose a bit of her zing.

Yes. She had a high forehead, perhaps too high to flatter her. Funny thing is, Louise Brooks had had a "dutchboy" bob since she was a little girl. Her earliest childhood photos show this.

While I adore the vampy and glamour photos, this one is probably a new favorite. She looks so carefree, but still pulled together.

... the '20s tennis skirt was a below the knee pleated number, am I right?

You're right!

Louise Brooks's brother was an accomplished tennis player, and she enjoyed playing the game herself.

Here's another example of Brooksie's casual wardrobe. Mind you, this was a half decade before Katherine Hepburn's heyday.

Now that's the kind of request I'm happy to fulfil! I wouldn't usually drink it neat as she did, but can do so if I need to rise to the occassion. If I want something dry it'll be a martini, gin and tonic with friends who want something tall and cool, white ladies for similar reasons, and a Straits Sling (now often merged with a Singapore Sling in contemporary recipes) for something exotic and sweet. Am not fond of modern Singapore Sling recipes, as they're too heavy on fruit juices and ingredients like sweet and sour.

Can't lay my hand on it right now, but what was that wonderful phrase from an early interview (Photoplay or one of its contemporaries), which stated that Louise gave the impression of being like a strong drink - as far as she was concerned, you could either take her or leave her as she was?

Being a Scotch and coke man myself, I don’t mind a wee bit of gin (Gin & Tonic) from time to time, come to think of it bourbon and coke is all I have tonight, so be it, Cheer’s to the greatest little lady that ever hit 100!
Happy Birthday Dear Louise :eusa_clap

and cheers to the invention of the camera! Without it, we wouldn't see head or tail of anything or anyone from that era!

Bundles of hugs & kisses to the gal who lit my torch & gave me
the incentive to unveil the real 'retro' me. I felt like a new woman
with my brooksie bob ~ & ~ I felt right at home with it.

Happy 100th Louise ~ Not only a beautiful woman, but a talented writer & actress!

Watched "Windy Reilly Goes Hollywood" in tribute to Brooksie last night. The short was so-so, but it was magic to finally hear her speaking voice. :)
