Han Solo's leather jacket in SW7

To my eye, this one is more of a costume jacket than anything. Whereas I have and wear an Indy a lot (it's my go-to warmer weather leather, superb for long-haul flights with the big pockets for tickets / passport, and lighter than all my other leathers, but still enough for cooler evenings in Summer), this one doesn't 'blend in' with my wardrobe - it'll always stick out as a more 'scif-fi' design. TBH, I think the textile version Ford wore in the iriginal films looked much sharper than this, but it does suit the overall look they're going for with him in this context. It'll be interesting to see if it does gain a following if dily wearers rather than being more one for the Comicon crowd.

Yeah, it does, But that was one of those mistakes that turns out for the best, as that was a great outfit. I wish I could get a copy of Han's jacket pictured above, though, as I'd love to wear it to one of the administrative meetings I'm forced to attend. His pocket-square speaks volumes.

Fore sure, Elvis looked great in it - and this one worked really well for Han Solo too. Whereas the really sharp look of the original outfit befitted him as a young man, this patina'ed, worn in (but not quite worn out) version really worked for him as an old man. Maybe the brown / earthtones were meant to suggest a softening too, rather than the blacks, navys, stark whites and greys of previous incarnations. The switch to leather sorta puzzled me a bit originally - I wodnered if the designer was working from memory and thinking "leather" re the original jackets. Still, reflecting on it, I think it's as likely the costume designer grew up with Ford's cinematic image, and perhaps this was also influenced by, if not a knowing nod to, his other, even more iconic (imo), character creation.

I guess this jacket may be of interest to someone living in South Kensington ;)
(Has someone done that one already haha)

I'm not entirely sure I follow you.... (are you going for "more money than taste? ;) ).

It's certainly not the worst thing I've ever seen. Unusual pocket layout aside (I assume these are meant to suggest sme form of space-travel utility that we don't encounter, perhaps inspired by a mechanic's jacket with dedicated tool pockets), it's probably not far off a lot of what you'll see in Camden market. It's not for me - or probably most of us here, given that, after all, we're about reviving seventy-odd year old designs - but there's certainly a Star Wars following out there who will I'm sure want ot buy it. The interesting thing, as I said above, will be to see whether as a design it can make the jump to street wear, rather than when people specifically want to dress as Han Solo.* The Indy jacket made that jump - in fact, while I'd always wanted an Indy jacket in a sense, in actuality it was for its utility as a warmer-climate, travel leather that I bought one in the end, not the Indy connection as such. Unless it's got some useful inner pockets, I can see the Solo design having practical limitations, but then so too do the Harrington jackets I wear a lot, and I've seen stranger fashions...

Times like this I wish I could peak seventy years into the future and see whether our figurative descendents are still on here, arguing about who does the best repro of the Han Solo jacket, and whether it's cooler than Hugh Jackman's. :)

*And here's the cool thing about that: when I last dressed up as Sid Vicious or Johnny Strabbler for a costume event. I was already a decade too old and a lot heavier than those boys.... now I can do Indy or Solo and look a bit young for the role, but the right shape... ;)

so many space ballpoints in his pocket :D

Actually, the first thing I thought of stowing in there were three good cigars, or perhaps three straight-stem pipes!

Wow, haven't seen the movie but that's terrible looking piece of clothing! Of course, we're seeing it isolated from the action. Maybe it was made that way to look good on camera?

No mate :) It was just the SW7 connection, London postcode for South Kensington.
I detest abbreviations but the lounge loves them, it took me ages to work out that the SW meant Star Wars.

You know the thing 'I would like an ALC LHB in FQHH as opposed to an ELC B3 RW RS or even a LW or BR B10' (That probably took me longer to type in abbreviations than spell each word out. No one would not talk like that would they.

How do you close it? Magnets?

And here, we can get the Matchless version for just over a grand.

The original looksl ike it might just have those as a closure. Hard to say - I don't recall him actually wearing it closed in the film.

Spare CO2 bulbs for his Sodastream !

Or he's a more socially-conscious hipster who takes his Nitrous Oxide capsules home insteado f littering the streets with it! ;)

well these kind of designed comes in vintage collections or can be said as revival in a modernized way. obviously the designer would also have that much sense that what he should give the actor to wear according to the generation and fashon. and the diffent designing can be just to detailed it what i think it is to hold bullets as his role is full of actions
