Help please!

I changed my idea costume last minute and now I'm going to be a flapper. This is what I have:

Any suggestions for what I can do to help this costume? Accessory suggestions? Pictures? I have a crafts store and a fabric store near by but I'm running out of time. Thanks!!

No activity here for a while; I hope we'll get to see some costume photos in a couple weeks.
Meanwhile, the hub and I have been asked to participate with the Arts Council's float in the upcoming "Ghouls Gone Wild" parade, instigated by the Flaming Lips. It's always a great time, though I prefer to watch than take part, but we did agree.
The theme, not surprisingly, is 'works of art'. I said no to "American Gothic" right away (who wants to spend a night of parades and parties looking like a wizened old granny?!). I reckon the Mr. will just put together a wacky concoction at the last minute and call himself inspired by outsider art; me, I'm thinking of taking my cue from a Weegee photo.
After browsing archives and my own books, I'm leaning toward this one:

It'd be great if I had someone to be the other girl (no, I don't think my fella is game for that), but I'm going to see if I can put together the look of the girl on the left; I have saddle shoes. How hard can it be to pose jauntily on a bar stool throughout the route? ;)

great photo - I'm adding that to my vintage lesbian photo collection. cute.

Audrey: I'd add a few strands of super-long, inexpensive bead necklaces. You can probably find those at craft stores (or make your own from beads), dollar stores, or maybe even Target or Wal-Mart. Then I'd throw on some fishnet stockings (again check Wal-Mart) and some Mary Jane type shoes with a heel & a strap across the top of the foot. Something like this:

You could probably fashion a headband or hair ornament with a feather with some inexpensive craft store supplies. I was envisioning something along these lines:

Either that or find a nice velvet cloche hat (you can find them at places like Kohl's or Steinmart nowadays) and embellish it with some beads.

I'm definitely *not* a 20s expert so hopefully some of the other ladies can come up with something.

A long, elegant cigarette holder would go nicely with the liberated flapper look. Maybe not so easy to find one in a shop, but possible to concoct something out of household items.......
How will you do your hair? Bob wigs are pretty easy to get (though for some reason, pink ones seem popular in the costume department). I bought a red one from a local wig shop, for under $25 a few years ago.

Believe it or not I've seen those cigarette holders at costume stores for around $3. Also, a lot of cigar stores actually still sell them, about the same price. You could very easily make one though - it's just a long plastic tube with a cigarette stuck in the end (spray paint a drink straw black?)

Halloween is by far, My favorite holiday. Just something about dressing up, and being someone/something else for the night.

Unforently, I haven't dressed up since I was 14(And for some reason, Years beyond that, I had a tendacy to be with either a Vampire or a Witch.).

This year, I'm participating in a Haunted house "Insane Asylum", and I get to be a Vintage "ghost" nurse(Blood splattered all over my costume), and hang around a table with a screaming patient, and a doctor, who has gone a bit insane, and trying to "fix" her by surgery means.

If you tell me you're in Weston Wv. I'm blaming you for getting me in trouble for holding onto a fellow too much that night.

Oooo, these are amazing!

Last year for Halloween I was a Sunflower- I found a 1920's little girl's Sunflower costume that fit perfectly (and was very short!). I hate wearing any of the normal Halloween costumes, so it was perfect for me. I'll see if I have any photos somewhere... The year before my boyfriend was a gunslinger and I was an 1880's Southern Belle- we just through our costumes together in 5 minutes, but luckily for us we both collect all eras of vintage clothes and accessories so I think we looked amazing.

I love Halloween, but I have absolutely no idea what to be this year! It's still early so I'm sure I'll just figure something out the week of.

What gorgeous costumes!! You guys look really great!

I love Halloween but I hardly ever dress up. I was a black cat a few yrs ago for a party at work. But it was pretty generic...I wore all black and had ears, a tail and a bow tie. Gave myself whiskers and a nose and looong eyelashes. I was cute but simple.

I agree with the many of you that sad there is no imagination in the teeny, slutty costumes. BORING!!!

Hope everybody has fun!!! And be safe! :)

Here's what I ended up with. My hair took the most time since it's long and thick. I wanted feathers too but stores were out when I checked last minute. Thanks for all the help/suggestions!

Christy, CherryRed and Audrey Horne, you guys look so original and beautiful :)

If my guy were here for Hallowe'en, we were going to do Lana Turner and Johnny Stompanato. Maybe next year...
