Halloween Cinema?!

Anyone planning on watching something special tomorrow night? Or watched anything to get you in the halloween mood so far?!

I'm thinking of rewatching a rare copy of A Page of Madness - a silent japanese 'remake' of Cabinet of Dr Caligari! Or maybe something campy from the 40's like Zombies On Broadway which was on TCM the other night... hmmm.. I know the very rare Michael Curtiz directed the Walking Dead is programmed tomorrow night on TCM aswell...! hmmm options options... :eusa_doh:

I've been wanting to see "A Page of Madness" for years. It's not "officially" available on video as far as I know. Sounds like a great choice for Halloween. Enjoy. As for myself,if my dad duties don't make viewing a movie impossible I'm thinking of watching James Whale's "The Old Dark House" which is one of my favorite '30s horror films. Not sure if we will "have a potato.." though.

I watched White Zombie the other night. Bela Lugosi in his prime. He had the loveliest, most fluid hands. I found myself staring at them through much of the movie.

There's a movie from the late 80s called Lady in White about a boy trying to solve the murder of a girl that took place years earlier. Though the time line of the film goes through Xmas, it starts out at Halloween and has a very gloomy atmosphere. Vintage-y feel too... I believe it takes place in the late 50s or early 60s. Probably around a PG or PG13, if anyone is looking for that type of thing.

My own tastes usually run toward Romero or Argento, though.

As far as Romero goes, I was a pretty disappointed with Land of the Dead. One of those things I was looking forward to, then after I saw it I decided I would have been happy if he stopped with his first three zombie pictures. The original Night of the Living Dead is a classic, of course, but Bub the zombie from Day always makes me smile

With Argento's stuff or giallo, I lean toward the detective stuff rather than the super gory. I liked Phenomenon better than Suspiria. Deep Red and Tenebre as well.

And I always love Hitchcock: Rebecca, Strangers on a Train, Shadow of a Doubt.

I could go on forever about thrillers and horror films

If I can swing it I will watch Session 9 and The Thing from Another World tomorrow evening to keep me in the holiday spirit.

Hey! Session 9! I'd completely forgotten that one... what a great, overlooked little film. The feeling I got listening to the voice on the tapes in that movie reminded me of the first time I saw The Exorcist. It's one of those moments you just sit there with your mouth open over how skin-crawling it is.

Ooh, ooh me too! I'm so looking forward to it! Isn't that one at Waverly Hills, too? That's one of my favorite creepy places to read up on.

Tonight I'm going to go see the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera on the big screen at our downtown classic theatre though. Always something to look forward to! And tomorrow, I'm definitely watching The Others, and I'm going to try to squeeze in Hocus Pocus too. What can I say? Old habits die hard.

Absolutely! I always wanted to take a trip up to where it was filmed when I was still living on the east coast. sadly that trip will have to wait.

Have you ever seen the '32 Chandu the Magician w/Bela as Roxor the Magician?!? Excellent early Bela aswell, in it he's as evil as evil gets!

you're right it's not! but there is a great odd video bootlegger that I found a copy through! Also an english translation of 7 Footprints to Satan! Let me try to find his website, you might find a lot of stuff you're looking for through him, if not, I could just send you a one-off copy of my copy, I bumped it up to dvdr from vhs for archival purposes

BTW;I also saw Session 9 when it was in theaters (blink and you'd miss it.It came and went that fast). Very creepy film that more people should see,but who am I kidding;it's stuff like Saw that sells tickets...[huh]

Are you familiar with Maurice Tourneur, Jacques' faaather?! He was the first horror director, continually going back to Poe & Grand Guignol storylines as early as 1914! I could go on and on about him, he's truly a lost icon of early cinema, a once equal of DeMille & even Griffith but is today unknown!

I wanted to see the preview of 30 Days of Night but had a late night at work. I enjoyed the comic but have a feeling the film is going to be pretty bad lol Session 9 - I watched that a few years ago since I love abandoned buildings (I did a project on it for my photography course) but thought it could've been better. Isn't that annoying actor from CSI in it?
