Hi girls. I'm going to repost some of the info that was in the other thread I had, which we took down...

The cosmetology book that I have is Standard Textbook of Cosmetology, by Constance Kibbe, copyright 1990 by Mylady. I wouldn't get one any newer, as the students nowadays don't have to learn the "old school stuff" anymore. You should be able to find one at www.abebooks.com, alibris, ebay or amazon. I wouldn't pay more than $5. Mine is the hard copy and I have no idea if the paperbacks or older copies are the same, as there were workbooks as well. Mine looks like this,

I really do reccomend the book as the direction of the sets and such really can make a difference if you wanna get "technical" and have a very authentic look. It covers pin curls, sets, and fingerwaves. Also great if you color your hair at home. Just be careful... don't get cocky and try to do chemical treatments on others hair, you might get into trouble, lol!

Here are some other hair sites I thought would be helpful:
http://www.scott.k12.va.us/scctc/Cos...ustrations.htm

Also this great site for hairpins and clips,
http://www.burmax.com/clips.asp

Found this.. we all have these I'm sure but I would've never thought to use them for pin curls!!

PLEASE NOTE! These next items in blue I cannot take credit for, I'm copying and pasting something I had found on another site and saved to my documents a long time ago, I guess it was www.perthswing.com but I can't be sure~you'll have to go there with any questions. : )

Here are links from another site I had found (perthswing I assume), I didn't look these links up and some may not be good any longer;

"have compiled some good hairstyle links from the 30s and 40s for our website.

I have also put together a vintage hair and makeup book for workshops I have run here book if anyone wants a copy of the pdf.

For those having a lot of trouble styling their hair, it might help you to buy a manniquin. You can look up cosmetology heads or mannequins on ebay.. used ones are usually pretty cheap, just be sure to get a clamp too so you can brace it on a table!

This thread has recomendations about setting lotions in it. Lots of gals recommend Lotta Body which can be found at Sally's. If you ask your questions in that thread, then we can keep everything together :)

Thank's Ohairas for recommending that great book! I went right to www.abebooks.com and found a 1955 addition which I promptly ordered! I can't wait until it gets here!!

On a side note - I went to Amazon used books first and the prices there were outrageous:rage: I would recommend anyone who is looking for a copy, to check out abe books first, as they had a ton available CHEAP:)

I just hope all of the other copies are the same.. they should be, of the same name and such. But I just won an old cosmetology book from '39 and there were no pictures whatsoever, wah! It was a different name, but still makes me paranoid.

In my 1990 textbook, most of the good setting stuff starts on page 79.

I wish I could remember what kind of gel we used. I just recall it was in a huge tub, pink, and we'd put in into smaller color applicator bottles to apply.

LOL, sorry ladies, I want to be sure that everyone knows I can't take credit for all of the links. Those bottom ones were copied and pasted from another site I found a long time ago. I tried to edit my message to read easier, but I may have made it worse! :(
So, that means I don't have any pdf anything, you'll have to ask her from that perth site!
