Since a few months, Barber shop 'Schorem en Haarsnijders" in Rotterdam, the Netherlands

http://www.schorembarbier.nl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=2&lang=en

Some of those haircuts are very, very much out of the pages of Donny Hawleys playbook, of Hawleywoods in California. Nice, but the necks and very short length of the quiff hairs always bugged me. Looks like they shave in the part line on some of them as well, which is sort of a no-no really.

The guy in image 149 has a great cut! I love the wavy hair!

There is a fella on the FL (perhaps even a few pages back on this thread) that shaves in the part at his barber shop. I actually considered doing it myself for a minute, but then thought about how odd it might be growing back!

Yeah, it seems sort of silly/unnecessary when you can just part your hair with a comb and be done with it!

I agree with you. Wouldn't shaving in a part be like shaving in a bald spot line? I like to part my hair, but not all the time, and I wouldn't want to get a very wide looking part.

I might actually get a haircut like this next time. Here, there's a light, not so pronounced parting going on. I'm sure you'll instantly know where that's from:

I need to stop looking at this thread, I'm getting hair envy. I am unfortunately doomed with the hairline and thin hair of my family. I try to keep my hair as close to his in the late 40's as possible.

You know, there's a silver lining behind every cloud. You've got the perfect hairline for any professional look from the Golden Era and with lots of hair, you're always doomed to hat hair. I've got a big mop of hair on my head and it never fails.

Lol I hate to say it people but some patrons shaved there parts in the 40s. I do them on some of my clients. You can tell in old photos and movies who did and who didn't. As long as you get a professionally done very thin line it is easy to grow out if you one day decide to get rid of it. It's also very handy when your one of those fellas who must can't get there hair parted cleanly every time. It'll make parting your hair as fast as 5 seconds. If anyone lives in the north Texas area I specialize in pre 70s cuts on men I'll try to post some pics soon

I have had mine done professionally 3 times and nobody ever says is that shaved? They just go "wow, that is a sharp part". It is sooo easy in the morning and if your like me and slick your hair with pomade it makes it look razor sharp. When I'm home tonight I will post pic of mine

Got this last Wednesday:

And one with pomade, which I'm really on the fence with. Does it look better with or without? :/ I'm thinking without because when I do have it in it makes me look younger.... I'm going to be 18 in a month and already get mistaken for being younger enough as it is. Can't wait until I'm forty and that's actually beneficial. haha

I feel your pain. Even in vintage style clothes and a fedora, I can't go into a bar around here without being carded.

Must be something in the cheese... haha
It really is irritating though, especially when people thinks it's just soooo hilarious and you've heard it a million times.

Aside from the haircut which is nice, I just had to comment on this song... What a horrible performance! So artificial and indifferent.

By the way, how does one convince the barber to shave the sides more closely? I even go in with a photo of a man with a haircut like the one featured in the above atrocity, and I still get more 'tame' looking whitewalls. Could it be that the barber assumes that it would not suit me and takes liberties with the styling?

When he asks you if it looks good say you want it shorter on the sides and back with a higher taper until they actually do it. A friend of mine got good results by saying that he wanted it military style (high and tight) sides and back and long on top. I find talking about the taper makes them realize you know what you want.

Not really featuring any of his haircuts, but here's the story of Almon Loos, the Rocking Barber.

WTF is this? Just put in a substantial amount of pomade and COMB that thing..no fussy hand-shaping..fiddling around endlessly and turn your head into concrete with loads of hairspray..urrgh hairspray..

Sorry about the rant, but this is ridiculous.
