I'm 2 for 2 disappointments with Gustin.

First the Canvas Duffel Bag. Nice canvas, not so much the leather but the killer issue is the hardware. The snaps and D rings etc feel like plastic. I emailed them and they admitted they have had a lot of issues with the hardware they used and are now trying to source better, have agreed to send me a new brass versions which won't go with my grey black colour scheme but I'll try to paint them black.

Second the Superlight Zimbabwes arrived today, just straight up don't have the measurements listed that they should have according to their fit guide....1 full size small. This means that I can't get them done up, found them to be quite generous in the leg compared to the hip area for what is supposed to be a relatively slim...ish straight fit, then again maybe its just a complete balls up?

I've emailed them about this as well now, will be interesting to see what they say.... I really don't think I should have to fit the bill for returning them by international post seeing as it was their QC error.

I've been reading a lot on styleforum that their QC has seriously gone downhill recently, seems to definitely be the case.

Hard to be surprised by the hardware, to be honest. I've steered clear of Gustin in general because their hardware is one of the places they cut corners to keep prices down. For me, hardware on jeans, jackets, and bags is just as important as the fabric, and whenever I handle Gustin jeans I find their denim fairly appealing but am turned off by what strikes me as chintzy hardware. I'm not trying to harsh them - I like what they do and their end-product is good for the price-point.

I took delivery of my 3rd pair of gustin jeans a week ago..American heavy..the fit felt a bit off compared to my others&just not as well put together...then today when wearing the bottom fly button popped off...the denims are not tight or strained in that area...has anyone else noticed a dropping of quality control....cheers

Agreed that the quality is still a bit over the map. This far in it shouldn't be. I jumped in further than I should've. Now I've sold off a few and I'm down to Zimbabwe and Heavy Japan. I'm good.

Yeah, I was looking at them last night and I didn't see anything that really appealed. May be a pair loomies down the line, but nothing else. Not sure why the QC seems to have gone off the boil.

I understand this id the nature of crowd sourcing but it boils my bladder that I need to contact them each time to find out there is a delay. Won't be buying from these guys again.

Hi Garry...I ordered mine about same time....the denim is nice..just not as well finished as my two other pairs...plus the fit isn't the same as the others..Got a pair of lawless18.5 on order...see how that pans out...

Hi...I'm going to get the fly fixed& get this pair hemmed...they are much longer than my others n keep them..it's too much trouble to return them from Scotland..but I think that's me finished for a while..2 outa 3 ain't bad.

The replacement hardware arrived for my duffel, and its better, shame that they are brass and the bag is the grey black. I may get around to painting it but it doesn't look too bad tbh and its only a damn duffle bag lol.

I received credit for the Zimbabwe Superlights, luckily they had a pair of other super lights in the office so they are sending them to me. Hopefully these ones fit.

While my experience has been disappointing so far, I have to say their customer service is really good.

I've bought 11 pairs (I can't believe that number), and 4 have been undersized. I have two more on order still, so we'll see what happens.

I hope quality isn't slipping, but my Loomstates came in 2" short in both waist and leg, but I'm sticking with them as I had some allowance built in.

I have one and i'm sure there are several others that have one as well. The quality is decent for the money you pay. They use a nice thick waxed canvas so it's very stiff when you get it. it's also fitted, unlike the Filson tin cloth short cruiser which has a little more wiggle room. I would gladly order the dark oak trucker if I had more funds available but I really don't need a duplicate jacket.

Hi guys, just chasing a bit of advice that I'm sure is buried somewhere in the Gustin thread. I have a pair of the japanese classics or whatever they are called. They have been sitting brand new in my cupboard for 6 months. On the inside tag it says raw. Are these the ones that should be soaked before wearing? I've worn them on my motorbike the last couple of days for about 3 hours total.
I screwed up with the Americans by gustin, I washed them after 4-5 wears. They have now been washed half a dozen times. I'm wondering. If because I've washed them early, will they ever get the highly sought after fading etc, or did I miss the window of opportunity to be cool?
Any advice is appreciated. I want to manage the Japan's properly and see what result I get.

If they are truly raw and are not sanforized, then they should be soaked before washing. I was unaware that Gustin actually made truly raw jeans, but I don't know that much about them.

It depends on how much indigo has been lost on your Americans, but if it is fairly significant, then you will not be able to get high contrast fades because there won't be enough indigo left for any or much contrast to form. That's fine if you like it that way. It is all preference. Personally, I basically never wash my denim because I like high contrast. To a lot of people that is idiotic and I can understand that haha.

Perhaps a pic of your Americans will help determine what chance of fading you have.

American Classics are sanforised, so won't shrink to any great degree when you stick them in the washing machine. Depending on how comfortable they are straight out of the box, a soak in the bath can help dissolve some of the starch and make a bit more wearable, but you shouldn't have to baby them too much. I don't wash mine too often, I now own more jeans than is strictly necessary for anyone, so it's a case of a rota-ing them so that they all get a decent wear, though it means that the heavier denims aren't softening up as quickly as I hoped (Gustin 18oz black x coals, I'm looking at you).

Cheers mate. The Americans are the ones I've washed a few times. It's the Japan's that I've finally pulled out of the cupboard...very crunchy fabric compared to the Americans...and Mr Sloan, I rustled up the balance on the BK jacket. We are go...
