Guayaberas

Recently getting into Guayaberas !

I purchased several in Acapulco, Mexico recently for cheap $28/35. Most places close to the border charge $80 for linen ones.

I also purchased a few in the Dominican Republic a few months ago. They are called Chakabanas over there.

Wow. That is an impressive collection. Should fit right in where you live. I bought three linen guayaberas when I was in Havana in February. Actually wore one while I was there and a local complimented me saying “it’s nice to see a tourist wearing a guayaberas, normally they wear bright shirts with flowers, which is not our tradition.” Am waiting for the weather to get warm enough here to wear them. I picture myself in my garden wearing a guayaberas, smoking a cigar, and wearing my panama. I’m sure my Austrian neighbors will be amused.

That's only what I purchased in Acapulco this month. I've got several others but I will wait to see how this thread picks up before I post them. I've got some real doozies.

Did you notice anything unique to the ones from Cuba vs other countries ? You are welcome to post your pics.

I should do a better job of posting close ups on the details. Some are just brilliant.

I know a guy who custom makes them in Tijuana.

My wife brought me one back from a trip several years ago. At first I thought that it really wasn't for me style wise but it grew on me and I like it very much. Not something you often see here, but I have gotten a couple of compliments from professors at our local university from countries where they are common.

I wear them throughout the summer here in NYC. Guayaberas are a perfect warm weather shirt.

www.mycubanstore.com or if you have the eye for it Ebay. I can basically tell what I am getting by the pictures but that took a few trial an error purchases.
