How about a version of Dune that's actually worthy of Frank Herbert's vision?

I understand there is a new making in the works, but with director Peter Berg my hopes are only permitted to be so high...

John Mulholland (film historian) sent me a copy of an extended treatment that Gary Cooper purchased for his Baroda production company in the late 50s. It was called The Proud Sheriff and was written by Alan Marcus and was based on the novel by Eugene Manlove Rhodes. Gary became too sick with cancer to make it and as far as I know, no one else has used it.

It's sounds like it would have been a really good Western and Gary would have been perfect in it. Here's a link to a detailed description of it that I posted at the TCM board. It's long so I'm just giving the link if anyone's interested in reading it.

The Col. Phil Cochran story starring Tom Berenger!
Now that would be a good one!
