What do you suppose the strap is for?

Honest question: Are you infatuated with B-3 jackets, or B-3 contract numbers?

I would say I am bordering on obsessive when it comes to WWII flight jackets. I would quit my job on the spot and move around the world if I was offered a position either building these repros or making museum exhibits of the originals.

Are there any repros of this cap available?

A clubmate and I did some casual investigation into that this afternoon and came up empty handed. Lots of A-3 repos out there, but no A-2. WWII Impressions has the HBT fabric reproduced, so it would seem a reproduction might be possible if even from photos.

I'm curious now as to what the A-1 Mechanic's Cap looked like!

Fabulous pics - thanks for sharing! There's an interesting array of jackets on display: A-2, AN-J-4, B-10, M-43's, and Ike Jackets. Oh, and the amazingly rare caps and collar insignia!!!

Please let us know who is who in the photo and what your relative(s) did.

What a dream to have these items now ...

These photos were taken I believe in China. All are personnel of the China National Aviation Corporation CNAC who served in the CBI theater during WW2.

The people in the photo are pilots, radio operators and ground crew hence the array of jackets. My grandpa was the one wearing the B-10 and the shearling (an ANJ-4?). He was a radio operator on those flights. He was recruited by the CNAC in Macau during the War and the whole family was flown to China. He left China and the CNAC after it was nationalised in or around 1949.

If you look closely, you can see the USAAF insignia on my grandpa's B-10 was covered by the CNAC insignia you see on this DC-4.

Thank you for the historical insight into your grandpa! Very interesting history to be proud of.
