Great Grandpa's car.

I know this is from before the time period but I thought I'd share this family pic.
The car is an Elixer from I believe 1911.
In the driver's seat is my great grandpa with his brother riding shotgun.
In the back from left (obiously) is my great grandma, great uncle's son, and my grandpa.

Yes, it's not like this picture was taken with someone's iphone. I can just picture some guy with a big box camera saying "hold still for a few seconds".

I especially like the horn.

I look at pictures like this an am fascinated. I would love to do a time-travel back to that era to experience that scene that in real time. What is missing, though, is the empathy. There's no way I could possess the time-appropriate thought patterns. I'd be looking at everything with a 2011 frame of mind. If the time travel machine had the ability to alter my brain to only know what would exist in 1911, then how would I know to come back, unless that part was temporary. Impossible, yes, but fun to think about.

Great shot and make sure you keep that photo safe for future generations. Driving an atntique/vintage car today is just like driving one back then. Rules of the road don't exist and it is a free for all at times and you still have to watch out for everybody else. Just go an you tube some old movies about NY City or Portland, Or. The only difference is that wenow have AAA-thankfully.

Big Fitz, your great grandpa's car was an EMF, 1911. Initials EMF stood for Everett, Metzger & Flanders. EMF made automobiles for the Studebaker wagon company and was eventually bought by Studebaker and renamed.

My great grandpa never drove. He walked everywhere or rode with somebody else. According to family oral history, his father (my great great grandfather) bought a brass mounted Ford when they were first available. He rolled it onto it's side attempting to turn into his own driveway on it's maiden voyage home from the dealer. He sold the car back to the dealer and he too never drove again.
