I like the idea of making this in capeskin and the rayon lining seems a very good choice for a light-medium weight jacket. I don't like heavy hides.

He has created a very distinctive style with the angled cuffs and pockets since everyone seems to go for the rounded edges (Himel, Levi's, Mister Freedom,etc) Also the pockets are smaller like on the A-1 which some people won't find useful but it looks good to me.

I'm not sure about the buttons choice but I like them. They look basic maybe for the style, making it more similar to an A-1 but I guess that using eye cat buttons makes it too similar to other current versions available.

I'm sure that this is going to be a great jacket anyway coming from GW.

The style is so basic that the only thing to separate it from other makers is the pattern and quality of the jacket. It seems to fit great and have high armholes which for me is a must to be able to move comfortably and if I'm not wrong I've seen other jackets from other makers with too low armholes making it look wrong when you raise the arms, my memory could be tricking me though.

Overall I believe it looks great and the details chosen by John help the jacket to stand out from other Cossac jackets

I think it might be the lenght. It looks like an A-1 without wool cuffs and different collar, at least to me and the fit looks similar.

Agree with all these points; especially the buttons (prefer two hole versions), but that's the easiest design mod you can think of. I am curious to know if Rainier Clothing Company was indeed a outerwear manufacturer or if that's fictional homage to this region (regardless, I really dig it)

Not a fan of small pointy pockets. Would have liked a more A2 style pocket. The rest of the jacket looks nice.

It's a nice job but I wouldn't wear one. This style and its variations always looks a little prissy or fussy to my eye.

I have a BK and Himmel Heron in this style and I still not sure about the style/model. I've seen Originals on ebay, but never owned one. I know all the Makers have handled originals and all make something a bit different. The 30s jackets had variations among makers too.

These jackets seem too long in the larger sizes for me and I want them tight at the waist, really cinched in. Maybe I'm just confused about the intended fit or being too picky. I've seen this style on members here that look perfect, just not me. I'm probably envious.

Any Jacket John makes is going to be based on a lot of fact, inspiration, creativity. Quality in workmanship and materials is his Trademark.

Quality and cut wise it's truley a well made jacket. The pointy pockets contrast rather sharply with the rounded colar, as already indicated the rest of the jacket is quite plain, which may be a good thing. I'm not a big fan of any jacket or coat with buttons outside of a long wool overcoat, however so I won't be placing an order for this one anytime soon.

Agreed. I think it is the length, the small pockets and the stitching at the hem. Just doesn't all fit together.

I am surprised that John hasn't made this well before now. I have always liked this style of jacket right back from when I first found the jacket that the mariner is based on. The Levi version copied from their 1930's pattern is also fairly long and looks similar to the fit in the photograph so perhaps there is a historical reason for this fit ?
Several Japanese companies make them but the prices are sky high.
