Hi there, my name is Joss and I've finally gotten up the nerve to join FL, after spending a good two years marvelling at the knowledge of youse guys & gals...

I'm sitting here listening to the new vinyl reissues of the Harry Smith anthologies of folk, country & blues 78s from the 1920s-1930s, which turned up in the mail today, having finished work for Xmess. I'm now facing the triple (40th birthday, Xmess, NYE) over the next two weeks – can't wait! As Mr J Morrison shoulda said, "Is everybody in? Let the bingo begin..."

In the spirit of FL, here's what I was wearing today:

Aero goatskin A-2 (my 40th present to myself)
Gap chambray chinstrap shirt (thanks to FL-ers for the tip!)
Levi's LVC Type II jacket
Brown wool eight-panel cap
Dockers K-1 khakis
1950s brown Acme buckle/motorcycle boots
Green paisley scarf / brown leather gloves

So there y'go!

For more background on what kinda fella I am, please refer to 'ere. I also play in The Stripchords, DJ regularly, try to keep our jukebox running and fix mine and my wife Nadia's Morris Minor (Mrs Wilberforce)!

If there are any FL-ers in the Bath/Bristol area, please feel free to drop me a line, to hook up for a nice pint of India Pale Ale and a blather...

I look forward to becoming part of the FL community! If you'll let me, that is...

Best,

Joss

The Rec

Welcome, Joss! Bath is such a fabulous place! When I finally make my trip to England, it's high on my list of destinations, not only for the Abbey, The Pump Room, the Royal Crescent, and the Roman baths, but also for the Rec! Several years ago, while channel surfing on TV, I stumbled on a Rugby game being played at the Bath Recreation Ground. What a great place to see a sporting event! Some day . . .
I'm a Christmas Eve baby myself, but I'll be hitting the ripe old age of 63. Enjoy the holidays!
Edit: The Morris Minor brings back fond memories. In September of 1960 some distant English relatives of my family came to the States to visit. They were the descendants of my great grandmother's favorite cousin who she kept in touch with all her life, after coming here from Bristol in 1850 at age 9. Anyway, the husband brought his little black Morris Minor, with about a 12 flea power motor. We rode around in it for two weeks. What a fun little car! Not much on long steep hills. We also played whist and had real high tea. What a good time that was.

Bath's a nice place to live, really, and even has an excellent vintage clothing shop (Vintage to Vogue), not to mention excellent weekly 'boot fairs' (swap meets) up at the racecourse between Spring-Autumn. I'm not a sports fan myself but a lot of folks I work with love the rugby at the Rec (although I'm sure you'd be appalled by the way the crowd dresses – all synthetic 'rugby' shirts, etc).

That story about your relatives is EXCELLENT! Nadia & I went Xmess food shopping in Mrs Wilberforce last night and, even though the rear heated screen has stopped working (probably a fuse), the heater blows a mouse's breath of hot air onto the front screen (and our feet), she still pulls like '12 fleas', despite it being below freezing! Whatta car!

Here we are with the 'force (as she's generally known) back in the Summer (what Summer?!?). Yes, my beard grows out with a lotta grey in it, hence Mr Badger!
