The History of Corn (1935), by Lowell Houser, can still be viewed in the downtown Ames Post Office built by the WPA that year.
Besides the Post Office, little else of golden era Ames survives other than the lovely inner campus of Iowa State University, Bandshell and Brookside city parks, the 1938 High School-turned-City Hall, and a host of handsome prewar houses – including 4 or 5 Moderne examples, one of which I grew up in.
