Went up a few times in a J-3 with my dad, loved those planes you really felt like you were flying as opposed to just 'riding' in an airplane. That might seem kinda ridiculous to say but I think those who have been up in one know what I mean.

Having a memory moment here, did the '59 172 have a square rudder?

Indeed it did. Here's Dad in his 172. We were flying in loose formation over Shackleford Banks when I took this photo through the open door of the cub. The west end of Harkers Island, North Carolina is in the background.

And this is my father standing with one of my highschool classmates. Her boyfriend (later, her husband) owned the 140 in the background and he kept it in Dad's hanger. BTW, all of these photos were from the same roll of film. I'm guessing they were taken on the same day.
