'Godless' Whiteys Leather Jacket

If any of you folks have watched Godless on Neflix, you may have noticed the leather jacket Whitey wears. I wanted to ask someone with more historical knowledge than myself.
What style is this considered?
Would it have been historically accurate?
How much would a leather jacket have cost a fellow back in the late 1800s?
I'd imagine a hefty sum if the average worker made a dollar a day.

I have no clue about the historical accuracy/relevance of that jacket but it's certainly cool. You could dial up Aero for a battered tan moonshiner and case closed if you were after something similar.

Keeping it Netflix.. in Damnation the cowboy is wearing a similar style jacket. That’s set in the 30’s however but in rural areas I guess clothing style was stickier than in big cities where trends are set.

Yes, that's a very historically accurate jacket common to the American southwest. Mexican/Spanish cowboys were called Vaqueros and wore this type of short jacket working on horseback, often with those same four horizontal pockets. The open range working ones were usually made of leather, because that's what cowboys had a lot of access to - cowhide. They eventually became a cultural style, decorative, and ornamental. They are also the predecessors of our short western denim jackets.

Love the Mariachi jackets, but not being Mexican or of Rudolf Valentinoesqe looks I don't think they would suit me.
This is the best though as I didn't notice the jacket till way later
