my distaste of modern life as often had some people I know tell me I should "go live in a cave"....not a bad option to get away from those fools.
Well now you can!!...I love the fact it was discovered by a dentist and an archeaologist.....I wonder if the Dentist job was to drill or to hold the torch deep into the cavity of the cave!!!

Perigueux, France - Looking to buy in southwest France? A retired farmer in the Dordogne region is selling his prehistoric cave adorned with drawings for just one million euros ($1.3m).

"I'm 76 years old and I can't show people around anymore. I can't go up and down the steps," Ernest Paluzzano, who has shown his "Grotte du Sorcier" to thousands of tourists over the years, told AFP on Monday.

In 1969, Paluzzano, a farmer of Italian descent, bought the site in the town of Saint-Cirq, which owes its name - "the sorcerer's cave" - to a drawing of a human figure detailing the face, back and limbs.

The cave, discovered in 1952 by a dentist and amateur archaeologist, is home to drawings dating back to the Magdalenian period, or between 22 000 and 15 000 years BC, according to French experts.

Paluzzano told AFP he had received a barrage of telephone calls from interested buyers since he posted a "for sale" sign near the entrance to his cave a few days ago.

I've wanted to live in a cave ever since I read Mary Stewart's book The Crystal Cave.

I think it was in 1936 or '37 that Ernie Pyle wrote a syndicated feature on some folks out west someplace who actually did live in a cave. As I recall, they had a right nice setup in there, and of course the rent was right. I'd be worried about damp and mold myself.

Also, bats.

Two Neanderthals find a warm dry cave to shelter in. Only problem is, it's full of giant elephant-like bones with enormous tusks.

The first one says, "Whaddya think, Bob? Is it a fixer-upper?"

The second one replies, "Maybe, but it's gonna be a mammoth job!"

Boom boom!

Nor me--I thrive under low-light conditions, but I need heat, and if I'm gonna go the "spider-hole" route, it's gotta have multiple entry/exit routes--I don't wanna end up trapped like Saddam did. (I still wanna know why they didn't just drop a flashbang, or better yet a frag, in on him just on general principle...)

I misread this the first time and thought you said Martha Stewart's bokk "the Crystal Cave". Instant mental image of Martha Stewart showing us how you just need som ornamental crystals, a ribbon and some flowers to turn a gloomy dark cave into a lovely middle-class home! lol

There's a cave in Guatemala for you, it's about 90 F year round, a bit damp, but there is a generator.

You can tour the place, but make sure to tip, because the guy with the generator, might forget to refuel and leave you in the dark.

Anyway, I've heard that someone was squatting in a cave on military property a few years back, he had electricity (stolen) and covered the door of the cave with a sliding glass door. Not bad until they found him and arrested him for tresspassing.

All the same, I think I'll wait on the caves, I'm holding out for a deluxe treehouse.

now all you'd need to do is build a Wayne Manor on top of it.

i'm sure you already have the nifty suits, just need to make a kevlar one to wear under those...

How about a snow cave! When I was a kid my friend and I built a veritable igloo out of big 12 inch thick chunks of snow that had slid off a huge building's roof. It was pretty cool, but it absorbed sound like you couldn't imagine. You could scream and not be heard 5 feet away.

Back when I was in Boy Scouts, we went on a trip where we made snow caves and slept in them at night. It wasn't too bad...until you opened the covering and the cold air came in. Not the kind of place I would want to make a home of.
