Hey Marlow,

Look up the online yellow pages for Nevada City CA. Look for leather shops. On the main drag, Broad St, there are 2 shops by same company. Give them a call and see if they can help you out. I picked up a pair last year for 40 bucks that matches my repo WWII shearling jacket. If you have problems finding it, let me know and I'll play around with it.

Not quite the same quality of glove perhaps, but I have just been fortunate enough to find a pair of Milore ladies gloves, still with labels and in their original wrapper, in a local charirty shop. Milore (Stylish Glove Mfg. Ltd.) was the last of the traditional glove makers in Worcester, finally going out of business in 1981. I would say that the NOS pair I just bought are probably from the 1960s at the latest, as the original price label is in 'old money' (pre-1972) and the label has no postcode (introduced progressively from 1959-74). They are in amazingly fine and thin kid skin (I am pretty sure) and, if one wouldn't quite fit inside a walnut shell as do Limerick gloves, it would certainly come close. The label says that the leather is tanned by Pittards (who I mentioned recently in another thread) and is washable. They are absloutely beautiful and I hope my wife appreciates them!
>Added later> She does! Aren't women wonderful? When presented with them she didn't remark on how they came to be unworn after almost 50 years, evince that they are an example of the glove maker's art, or initiate a discussion about the demise of the Worcester glove industry. No, she merely commented on how well they match the (expensive) handbag I bought her for her birthday. Lovely.

Yes it was history detectives I saw them on. They did work out by the end that the gloves were used as an invitation, and because of how fine the craftsmanship was on them (apparently the best they'd ever seen) they decided it was most likely an invitation by someone of royalty.
