Surprised

I'm surprised anyone would give a second look to a man in a pink shirt. Good Lord!
I wore out my pink oxford buttondowns. My boss, who I would not dare call feminine, was wearing a pink striped shirt with white collar and double cuffs, and a light pink tie today in a meeting. It looked great!
There is nothing wrong with the color pink on men. It's a COLOR for pete sake, not a Vcitoria's Secret undergarment.

Beat up men in pink shirts indeed. That's the most knuckle-dragging asshat thing I've ever heard. Get them out of the gene pool!

There's a long running (and constantly recurring) sequence of letters to the editor of the local student newspaper at Purdue regarding the sissy-boy nature of the colour pink. The authors basically think that there are certain colours that men should not wear. It even went so far that one such writer was threatening to beat up any man he saw wearing a pink shirt.

Men are apparently meant to be "REAL men" (whatever that might be). Any deviation is seen as definite evidence of deviation. Hey, if they flex their muscles enough maybe sissy-men will stop wearing pink?

I've never understood where the fear of femininity comes from. I can't think of any golden era movie star who didn't show some femininity. Even Clark Gable!

Back in college days us guys in the dorms loved to sneak into the university hospital and snatch green scrubs to wear. The hospital got so fed up that they switched to pink garb thinking guys wouldn't wear them. Guess what? We snatched those just as fast!

An unfair amount

There is no better looking woman than a cowgirl with a nice figure wearing Wrangler's, boots and a tight snap button shirt.
I found that Texas has an unfair amount of gorgeous women. It is not fair that one state has that many good looking women. Plus Texan women have class, act like women and like tough men. Like they say; everythings big in Texas. So here's a cheers to Texas womanhood:cheers1:

I adore women in men's tailored suits. I think the male-role specialists in the Takarazuka are some of the chicest and most beautiful women in the world. I just ooze envy for the way they wear those trim suits. My inability to pull off that kind of androgyny is the
great tragedy of my life. (Um. I've had a very sheltered life.)
Wow.... I didn't think anyone would bring Takarazuka up here, much less know about the troupe, though they are very popular here. As a matter of fact, one of my daughters is a great fan, and often go to see their shows, and watches the dish channel devoted to Takarazuka all the time.

For those who do not know what this troupe is, check the following, through the website does no justice, and only the top link is in Eglish.

In my school there's a guy who has a shirt that says "Pink is gay", the shirt actually is pink! I actually don't like shirt's with words on them, but this one is just great!

a belated addition to my own thread...
this is 70s Yves St Laurent channeling the 30s, but brilliantly.
there is a better picture of the suit somewhere but it has a naked lady in the shot.

My husband can't pull of anything remotely feminine in his dress. He's too effimate in his mannerisms as it is, sticking him in pink would be mean.

He's truly a metrosexual, and you got to remember you need to pull off what you can.

Conversely, I'm too masculine and I look like a lesbian when I wear men's clothing (while nothing wrong with it, it's not what I want to project) but it was good when I was a single mother raising my boy.

I have the picture you mean HBK (with the naked model). It's by Helmut Newton, 1975. It's in the very wonderful Taschen book "Paris Mon Amour", a collection of vintage photos of Paris.

Back to the issue of femininity in men, no one has mentioned the late Bunny Roger, a sartorial giant, the epitome of male dandyism but with more than a hint of the cross-dresser! I quote:

"Neil Monroe "Bunny" Roger was probably not the most fearsome soldier the allied army has ever had in its ranks. Fighting for the British Rifle Brigade during the second world war, he went to battle wearing a chiffon scarf and brandishing a copy of Vogue. Once, when his sergeant asked him what should be done about the advancing enemy troops, Roger, who liked to wear rouge even with his khakis, replied, "When in doubt, powder heavily." When he ran into an old friend in the hellish, bombed-out monestary of Monte Cassino in Italy he responded to his pal's incredulous "What on earth are you doing here?" greeting with one word: "Shopping". As dandies go, Roger wasn't a massive spender - he bought a mere 15 suits a year from his London tailor, Watson, Fargerstrom & Hughes, but, boy, was he ever particular. He liked exquisitely cut tartans, Edwardian-style jackets in pale shades of cerulean blue, lilac and shell pink, sharply tapered at the middle to show off his astonishing 29-inch waist. Roger, like all proper dandies, rivalled Wilde in the one-liner department. When a gobby cab driver yelled from his window, "Watch out, you've dropped your diamond necklace, love," Roger replied, in a flash, "Diamonds with tweed? Never!"

I guess I'm confused as to when exactly appreciating finer things and having feelings became anything less than masculine? [huh]

Caring for others, as a man, is chivalrous, not feminine. Appreciating art and the feelings it can evoke is part of being cultured and self-aware, not "girlie".

Wearing pink, as long as it's not a bad color for your skintone and hair, is just a sartorial choice not a statement of crossing some kind of gender line.

The equation of "manhood" with "brutish and uncultured" is as laughable as saying that you have to be in touch with your "feminine side" to appreciate the feel of silk against your skin.

It's reverse sexism.

I'm all man and proud of it, I don't have a shred of whatever "femininity" might supposedly be.

Except for the wearing women's underwear thing, I do like me a nice tight set of satin britches. :D

Cary Grant freely admitted that he wore women's underwear. He claimed that they were more comfortable.[huh]

I sometimes do the french cuff shirt, tie and vest thing. It turns heads at times but, I like it. Plus, I get to wear my dad's old ties, tie bars and cuff links, I like that.

A little down tangent boulevard, but for those keen on the military, a period photo of 3 German women in mens battledress.

Fabulous rant my friend...

when i was in college, i wrote a paper entitled "The Liberation of Men". It is simply outrageous that we, who fought for so long to be given the right to be allowed to live in full expression of who we are, should now be willing to restrain men in the same way.

It is simply wrong that we expect our men to be macho and full of bravado on our arm walking down the street for the world to see, and yet get angry when we cannot seem to squeeze sufficient emotion and softness out of them behind closed doors
