If your hips are more than 10 inches larger than your waist, you should go up a size in a girdle. I would assume the same would apply for a waist cincher that comes down very far over the hips. Also, the size 26 is for a 25/26 inch waist and the 28 is for a 27/28 inch waist.

That's one thing I want to do this week is find a place that sells nice girdles...Once the mister get's his paycheck...it's game on!
With waist cinchers, it looks like it just tucks your tummy in [huh]

How about something like the Triumph Doreen range of bras? theyre more suited to vintage looks too

:eusa_clap I can vouch for that - I have great problems finding bras that are well-made enough to give good support and also stand up to constant wearing (when you buy outsizes, they're so revoltingly expensive it's hard to own more than two at a time!).

If any of you can find Triumph bras, they're usually a good fit and hard-wearing. I would recommend them, and the Doreen looks lovely.

Well, I wouldn't mind so much if I got to choose between cheap'n'average and expensive-but-fine..! Being a 34G or so, I don't get to choose. Even if the size label says 12G (NZ size), if the price is under $45 the fabric and construction will be skimpy and stretchy.

I'm glad to see the Triumph Doreen mentioned above comes in a good variety of sizes, but I can't yet find any Triumph stockists that have it available!

Keep your eye on Ebay - quite a few "Doreens" come up for grabs on there - on the UK site.

I understand the rule of "if your hips are more than 10 inches bigger than your waist go up the next size" when it comes to girdles. I just bought a brand new long leg high waisted girdle, but when I put it on, it's kind of big in the waist. I'm not getting much waist pushing in - ness. My hips are 12.5 inches bigger than my waist and normally I buy this size. Should I go in a size? Will it be too uncomfortable? Will it smush in my derrire? (not a look I'm going for)

I would...I like mine to feel snug..but yeah, you don't want to be uncomfortable either! I think you'll be fine going down a size

You should go down a size. If the garment is on the stretchy side, it won't be uncomfortable (and there is always a slight flattening of your rear anyway, based on the nature of the garment.) If the garment is too big in the waist, the lines under your clothing won't be quite as flattering as they could be.

Thanks for that Jitterbugdoll. I've got my eye on an 20s corset/girdle and couldn't work out if the flattening look to the rear was just the photo or the actual shape. Now I know.

That would hold especially true in the 20s, and with a corset even more so--the idea being to give you a very boyish figure.

Hello I am new and I have a silly question to pose to girls who might know the answer! It's long, so thanks in advance if you read it!

I just discovered (through here!) the whatkatiedid.com site and I am desperate to buy something from there! I think I have what they describe as a "vintage figure" as my waist is about 27 inches fully sucked in (26 at a very big push, hooray yoga!) and my hips are about 39. I have a plethora of pencil skirts that I love wearing and a few big skirted dresses that I cinch in at the waist and waer with big swing petticoats. Now I was looking at both girdles and the waist cinchers as something I would ideally get one each of in the end...but I want to start out with one or the other.

My question is...what happens to flab when you put on a waist cincher? I don't have loads, but what I do have has to go somewhere right? I am leaning away from a girdle as my first purchase, because my bubble butt looks pretty reasonable in pencil skirts, I'm more keen on the tiny waist look. But if the cincher doesn't come as far down as a girdle is there going to be a ring of flab around the bottom od the waist cincher that will show through a skirt? Perhaps would it be solved by buying the 28in one rather than the 26? I want a reasonable amount of cinching though, that's the problem!

Sorry this is so long! Thanks for any help. All you ladies are just so stylish, I'm so envious!

I don't usually have bulging problems with stretchy cinchers, but corsets are another matter. The 26 should be fine unless you are very soft or ample in the middle.

If you want to wear a corset or go smaller than 26 you need to get longer coverage (as the other ladies here have suggested). Otherwise you can get ugly bulges.

I've noticed that I can completely change the shape of my hips and waist with the heavier girdles. One gives them a round 50's shape, and another removes 1-2" to help with 30's lines. Unfortunately, I need to lose weight to wear either right now, or else get a bigger size.

I did get the cincher in a 28 actually, and though it does skim a bit off my waist I can't help wishing I'd got the 26. But then, there's the chance of bulges too, so I don't really know! Perhaps when I am feeling flush I will buy the 26 too...I could always exchange it if it's too small, and have two cinchers instead of just one!

Hm, with a 28 inch waist you shouldn't be getting a 28! What Katie Did actually has a sizing guide...here is what it says:

"Our corsets come in even waist sizes (22", 24", 26" etc). To determine your corset size take 3 to 4 inches from your normal waist measurement. If you have a natural waist measurement of 28", then your corset size will be 24". If you have a natural waist measurement of 29" then your corset size will be 26".

It depends on what kind of cincher she got. If it's a corset with laces up the back then yes, 3-4 inches less than your waist measurement is right. If it's a Rago cincher or a girdle, then getting your waist measurement should be correct. Getting a stretchy rago cincher 3-4 inches too small would make it impossible to close and if you did manage it, very uncomfortable.
