Jayne had a fantastic figure but her waist doesn't look too natural to me and does look as though it had been trained slightly. I'm aware that she probably had a tiny waist to begin with but the shape of it looks a little concave, particularly compared with her large bust.

Vintage Sizing

Ok, ladies, I have a GORGEOUS vintage all in one from Charis that I would love to offer in the classifieds because it will never fit me.

How should I measure it? Open the whole thing, lay it flat and try to do bust, waist hip?

It has lacing, too, so the size is a little flexible.

It's to die for...

I'm going to agree that the first photo does not look like a natural waist. It is not a smooth curve but rather a sharp angle. It reminds me of what control top panyhose do when your waist is pinched in. It is possible that there is sometype of control feature in the first swimsuit (ie. built in brief)

Jayne did have a large rib cage in proportion to her size, except for her bust line she was tiny. Here's a more revealing pic.

Up until her late 30's my mum was 40x20x36. I know as I "grew" up my figure was a disapointment to her ideal

oh, I am utterly disappointed, the rago girdle is too small and the bullet bra too big, WKD lie about there being no elastic on the band.

I'm going to have to switch it down a size

I can just get ito the waist cincher, I'll be keeping that

Oh--That stinks. At least one out of the three worked for you.

If you have time during the day you could always pop to the WKD boutique in West London and exchange it, or if you're near a department store you could pick up a Doreen Triumph bra which gives a pointy effect.

SaraLouise,

You bring up an interesting point.

Does anyone know if there any "grandma bras" still that give a pointy effect , but not as much as a bullet bra. I had thought of a playtex 18hr bra possibly having that effect, but if I remember, they only came in full figured sizes.

I remember a time when discount dept stores (Wal Mart, Kmart, etc) carried that playtex style. I can still see Jane Russell doing the commercials for it. It seems that they have all gone to the seamless Tshirt style or lacy demi-bras though that create the "natural" look.

Maybe try doing a search within this thread for "bra"? I know there have been many recommendations made throughout this thread.

Before losing weight, I wore the 18hr bra exclusively. I wouldn't call it pointy. The Exquisite Form bra is a nice, pointy bra that is pretty cheap and starts at a 34B

Ok so here is my dilema.

Just bought a repro dress. It is a size 12 with measurements as follows: 40bust/ 28 waist/ 42 hip. Problem is that I bought it to fit my bust... but the waist is still too small. My actual measurements are 38 bust/ 30 waist/ 39 hip.

Is it possible to get a girdle to really cinch me in 2 inches?? Or did I seriously screw up and should I have gone even large in size so it fit the waist? I have never worn a girdle. I don't even know where to start. I have read this thread through and through but am as lost as ever.

My waist cincher takes me in 3 inches and it was a cheap brand from eBay. My guess is that a Rago cincher would work even better.

Yeah, the problem though is the hips. I don't think any girdle will take you in 3".

Actually, I find that my girdles take me WAY in at the hips and don't do much for my waist. I have a lot more fat on my hips and lower tummy (and not much at all on my waist), which I guess is quite easy to smush and flatten. My girdles usually bring my hips down about 3", and my waist only about 1". So it is possible depending on your body type!
