No personal experience with G&B. But over at that other forum whose name must not be used here (rhymes with mintage heather plackets), guys write that the G&B fit is very big. Like 10" over tag size. So that may be something to ask them about. Of course if you like the A-2's fit, you have no problem.

The only difference between the civil and Navy G-1s is the hidden hand warmers in the civil version.

Check out their clearance sale page. A few G-1s there.

I hope the words "very big" is an exaggeration! There is a historical horsehide in the mail for me and I am not in the mood for sizing issues.

But if you do go to that other site, please don't tell them you want a g-i. They will laugh and tell you that your g-i is what gives you problems when you eat too much rich food. Tell them you want a G-1. They'll be happy to help you.

Rule of Thumb with G&B: Always order one size down from your normal size unless you like an oversize fit with plenty of room for layering. A used Civil G-1 just recently sold on Ebay for about $250. They are very nice jackets. If you buy their military G-1 without the side entry pockets, ask about size because it may be a more trim fit than the Civil G-1. Good luck.

I just got an ANJ-3 from G&B. It is a hybrid between the A2 and G-1 jacket. Has all of the features of the G-1 but an external windflap and eps. In any event I had to go two sizes down. I started with a 42 R which is my size with Eastman A2s and the three Navy G-1s I have. Way too big. Rule of thumb is there is 10 inches of span over the size so 52 inches in circumference under the armpits. I asked the lady Rene'e Hunter who was very helpful to read off the measurements of the jacket size 38 and size 40. After getting the measurements from her I was convinced a 38 would fit. To make a long story short it did perfectly. I have talked to a couple of other folks who also ordered G&B jackets and they did the same thing went two sizes down.
