When I was a little kid I used to lay in my bed at night and watch a man limp up and down the hallway past my bedroom door.

He had on brown chaps, a brown vest, really long brown hair and beard, a big brown cowboy hat, and sunglasses. He didn't come when it rained, though.

I wasn't scared at all. He never interacted with me -- just shuffled back and forth past my door. I never tried to bother him. I just lied there in the dark watching him. Late at night I would feel a severe pointing on my back and it would wake me up, but I was scared to open my eyes and to this day if I lay with my back to the edge of the bed I have to have a blanket and I'm always a bit nervous

I told my parents when I was a teenager and they laughed at me. :(

This pic was originally posted at Dismuke's Message Board a few years ago. It's the house in Joplin, MO which was used as a hideout by Bonnie and Clyde. It was also the scene of a shootout between police and the Barrow Gang that left two police officers dead.

Maybe it's just me but you can see what looks like a face in the window. In relation to the window the face looks far too big to be an actual person looking out of it.

Did he ever mention anything about the '29 Chevy he has? There's stories about that right there that will make one's hair stand on end!

I've had some strange and unexplainable things happen to me over time.

One of the last was a little while ago at a place called Talbot House in Belgium, also known as Toc H. It was a rest centre for troops in the First World War as it is not too far from Ypres.

Some friends and I went for a little trip. Turned out my BF had to work, so instead of staying in one of the annexe rooms in the garden, I got to stay in the house itself in the single room known as the Officers Room.

Now Toc H is an incredibly calm and restful place. You sense that men who had a chance to get away from the horrors of the trenches were so glad to have somewhere like that to go. The garden is really beautiful.

That night after we had been out and about, I was jolly tired, so I tucked myself down and went right off to sleep. A little while later, I awoke to hear a group of heavy boots walking along. It sounded like they were on the floor above me, outside the door. I thought 'Oh that party of men I saw earlier are coming in, but gosh they are being noisy when it's so late!' and back I went to sleep.

The next morning when the volunteer in the office asked how I'd slept, I said jokingly 'Fine, except I was woken by the sound of the men's boots on the floor above me!' She looked really confused and said, 'No-one is staying on the floor above you and that party were very quiet when they came in'. Now I *might* have been confused by the way the sound travelled in the old building, but I know the sound of heavy, hobnailed boots when I hear them, and that is certainly what it sounded like.

I liked to think it was some of the chaps who had spent happy times there returning to see their pals once more.

Another time when I was a young teen, my mother and I moved to an older bungalow type house probably built about 1900 which had been split into two flats. It was the first night in my new room which was on the very back of the house, separated from what would originally have been the dining room by a little bit of hallway.

Although I usually sleep well, I kept waking up. In the middle of the night I heard a woman singing, quite sort of operatically but as if she was singing for herself, not for anyone else, and it sounded like it was coming from the dining room. It was not a tune I'd ever heard before or since to my knowledge. I knew it wasn't my mother. It was the middle of the night, and although she sings, she didn't sing like that. I wasn't frightened. I just thought 'Oh, what a lovely voice that lady has' before I drifted off to sleep.

I never heard it again after that nor had any other 'unexplained' things happen in that house. I can't explain it but I was wide awake at the time. In the morning I realised how strange it was and told my Mum. She didn't make a big thing about it but she said she hadn't heard anything and she is a very light sleeper. I often 'get a feel for things' but she says she doesn't. So either I imagained it or I heard something that she didn't.

I do believe that sometimes things happen that can't be logically explained.

Sorry for the long post!

I'm really Missouri on this. "Show me." I'll spend a night anywhere, just to see. Eastern State Pen, Alcatraz, Tower of London, anywhere.

I do, however, stay at the Highland Gardens Hotel whenever I'm in LA. I request room 105 with the (probably vain) hope that Janis Joplin's ghost will drop in, stumbling around and clutching a bottle of Southern Comfort.

Forgotten Man, my Grandpop served in WWII and was shipped over to New Guinea on the Queen Mary... Grandpop said it had lots of secret passages for the waiters to travel quickly through the ship--Lots of places for the spooks to hide I bet! I would love to visit the Queen Mary some day.
My Brother-in-Law worked on the Queen Mary as a maintainence / carpenter. He recalls his brother who also worked there seeing a Ghost of an old man down by the swimming pool. This was years before the Ghost Tours made any mention of the pool area.

Here's a story that really shook up my ex-wife. A few years ago my Brother was tragically killed on his Bike. My Bro and the Ex used to scare each other. It was a game they would always play they would jump out and say Boo ! This is because we lived ( I still live ) in a Haunted House. We were always on edge here. Well as I mentioned my Bro was killed out here in Irvine Ca. He did not have any ID on him so he was a "John Doe" for about 8-9 hrs. About 8:30 that night a Detective came down to inform me. He informed me of the difficulties of ID'ing my Bro ( Cyclist PLEASE carry your ID ). So I did not know the time of his death. So that night after informing the rest of my Family I called the Ex. Naturally she was shaken and upset. That night after calming down we talked about other things. My Ex is a Book Keeper at a Super Market out here. That day she told me she was doing the Books. She felt someone grab her neck and shoulders. She freaked because she thought she was being robbed. She fled out of the Office but realized she was the only one in there. She thought it strange and passed it of as "something wierd". She knew the approximate time because she had just finished lunch. The next day she came by to get the low down. I told her I did not really know the specifics. I told her to check and see if the story was " Online ".
She checked and found the story. While reading it she cried " OH NO, OH NO !" and started crying. It seems my Bro was killed the exact time my Ex felt some hands grab her shoulders ! To top that off my Sister and Niece told me at that same time they witnessed something. While having breakfast / lunch a mist appeared between them. They thought it was smoke or a spider web but it disappeared. My Bro said goodbye to the girls and thankfully not to me !

A few years ago (well, may be a decade) the local asylum was demolished and a housing estate put in its place. Nothing happened to me personally, but a friends father was a building contractor on the site. Not the most imaginative of men, and particularly skeptical of all things paranormal. One day while touring the site on his own, he heard foosteps behind him where there was no one. When he turned to look, he was shoved in the chest hard enough to knock him over (he is a big man). He said at the moment he was shoved he felt an intense anger. He went back and checked the site information and found the area he had been walking had been the asylums solitary confinement area.

My aunt had a few as well. Once she left my cousins bedroom for under a minute when he was a baby, having left baby clothes all over the floor. When she got back they were all neatly folded in a pile. Some time after she saw a female figure standing over the cot in a mirror, when she turned to look there was no one there. Then at dinner once a large platter flew accross the room and then stopped, landing safely on a slate floor.

Personally, I do not believe in ghosts. But I'm prepared to accept there are things we do not understand, and that I may be dead (if you will pardon the pun) wrong.

I've never had any ghosty things happen to me. I do believe in ghosts, but I've never seen one or felt one or anything like that.

I've heard several ghost stories, though. Amongst them, a man who set up a camera in the hallway of his house to capture what he thought were the sounds of footsteps crossing his corridor every night. His mother had died a while ago and she never really got a chance to bond with her new grandson (who was a couple of years old at the time).

According to the video (it's online somewhere, I forget where exactly), the man captured the sight of shuffling feet, leading from one room in his house, across the corridor into another room.

The first room was his mother's old bedroom.

The second room?

His son's bedroom.

He concluded that granny was making nightly visits to check on her little sweetheart.

Having grown up with Ghost Stories most of my life I can relate. Being of Indonesian decent my Pop would tell me the various types of Ghost he grew up with. I personally believe they're demonic (Indo's ghosts) in nature. I always as most kids do thought my Pop was telling tall tales. Imagine my shock when surfing You-Tube videos. I was seeing the Ghosts my Pop told me about ! Pontianiak was one, he told me this was a woman that had a hole in her back. This hole was covered by long hair she would sit in the trees at night and play with the night birds. Once while running one early am (Pop was a boxer he told me he met Max Schmelling (?) there) this Pontianiak was chasing him. She would fly tree to tree laughing so Pop sat under a streetlight till the sun came up. One last tale, I saw this on You-Tube it was in Thailand though but a similar story. Trees are sacred in that part of the world. It seems one of Pops friends decided to take a "leak" on a sacred tree. Well this friend of his could not stop urinating. They had to appease this spirit / demon so he could stop.

The wife and I stayed in the old Colonial Inn in Concord, and were randomly given what we learned the next morning is reputed to be the haunted room. Another guest who was in and out during the night told us at the desk the next morning that he kept seeing something outside our door the previous night. We concluded our combined snoring drove it into the hallway. Don't laugh. You haven't heard us.

Something similar happened to me. He (I don't know why but I'm sure he's a he) only came at night when I was asleep in bed. Some times I felt him passing through the bed from a part to another, some time the presence passed over me, some other time I could feel him breathing in my face...it was a cold breathe...He never hurt me, and I was not afraid of him, but I never opened my eyes to see what was going on those night...like you I always have to have a blanket over me at night also in the hottest night, and never give my back to the edge of the bed!!!

The Ghost of the Creek

This story I can tell because I had seen this ghost several times.

Layout of area before the story:
I used to work for the city's animal services department. I worked in an old rat infested building that the city gave over for the animal control department. The building I worked in was really two buildings. The one building was the animal shelter where the animals were kept and business was conducted and other building was the radio/dispatch room where service calls were organized and dispatched to the various field officers. The door to this room has a small window so that we can see who is on the other side in the breezeway. Between these two buildings was a breezeway which led to a courtyard, during business hours, we let dogs run around in this courtyard so that people can see them and adopt them.
At night, after business hours, we lock the building down, lock the gates to the breezeway and lock the parking lot. Lights out to save energy except for the radio room. Nobody gets in without us letting them in...

The story:
I was a rookie working in the radio room. It was about 0100 in the morning and I was sorting through the call sheets to place them in the dispatch slots for the morning shift. Behind me in a corner sat a senior officer reading her romance novels. I was standing and facing the door when I look up and see a white figure slowly walk past the small window at the front door. How could that be?! The breezeway is locked at both ends. It was dark in the breezeway but there was enough light from the parking lot to see the figure walk past the door window! I didn't realize that I had dropped all the call sheets to the floor. The senior officer says, "That's our ghost. He always walks through the breezeway towards the creek next to our building."
5 years later:
By that time I worked at nights by myself. I was then a senior officer. I had just made my security rounds to make sure the building was locked and animals were ok. I sit in the radio room since it it the only room that really don't have rats in it. I had let the shelter pet in the room with me, a large white german shepherd whose name was Snow. I'd be playing solitaire on the computer and would see the white figure slowly walk past the front door. I look at the dog and he'd be looking at the door with his head cocked and ears erect. I had seen this ghost walk past several times but was never really afraid of it except when it startled me the first time. That is all

My mom has had several encounters with my grandparents after their passing.
One night while visiting "the homeplace" to see aunts and uncles she was walking alone down the sidewalk between relatives houses. She said a large stray dog charged at her from behind a house and she was very afraid, until she saw that it had suddenly stopped in it's tracks and my grandfather had him by the collar. He motioned her to walk past and she did. The dog retreated to the backyard after she walked by. My grandfather had been gone for several years at that time.
