Getting the Grace Kelly hairstyle...

Hi all,

I've been trying to figure out how to get the 1950's Grace Kelly hairstyle for ages, and maybe the experts on this board can help! Specifically, what is the haircut that she would have had, and then how would the hair be styled? I'd love to make this my everyday hair look.

I would say, and I'm no expert, that its a just above shoulder length cut, with long layers.

I think just the ends have been curled and the rest is just combed in and sprayed.

I might have a go at something similar in the next few days (when I recover from this awful summer cold) and I'll let you know if it works.

I tried to do this with my hair one. I have crazy curls, and I tried to tame them. Well, it ended up looking flat after a couple of hours.
Maybe next time.

It's similar to my lazy days hairstyle which is nearly every day these days. Mine is no where near as smooth and perfect as hers. I also don't sit still for very long. My hair's just a bit below shoulder length where it's longest with a few long layers at the bottom. Sharp part, pin at the other side until you've finished blow drying over radial brush, roll bottom, take curlers out when it's dry, brush, hairspray. Take pins out of side and it should stay. I'm tired, it's late. Maybe I could've explained that better.

I think it would work if you take a little more care than I do.

Watch Mad Men! The character Betty Draper (played by January Jones) has the Grace Kelly look down pat, and in a couple of episodes of the first season she was shown wearing large pincurls at the nape and sides. Unfortunately I don't have a screen-cap, but you could do a freeze-frame on those scenes to get an idea of the proper setting.
