The ones I posted are ~ 5.5 cm. That is not uncommon for the time period. Yours is a bit shorter but I have examples in that range. They are not formal hats. They are Sporty.

Brent, I am not sure who made it. At the moment "HCA" doesn't ring a bell. I think it's post unification so maybe 1990s. I will do some checking.

Update: "HCA" is Hat Company of America so post 2004. Still not sure who made it. Could be Mayser or Wegner.

Brents hat was made under license of Hat Corporation of America which has been around for some good long time (around 1930).

Germany began licensing Stetson and Dobbs right around 1960.....(I belive 1958 for Stetson). I always supposed it was due to a built in US market (military bases, tourist) wanting to see a familiar name in hats, and to beef up a declining market.

I have a licensed Dobbs Twenty (recently aquired) and two Stetson's made during this licensing period.

They are all German made and I believe similarly marked as Brent's (and from the early 60's). I belive my recent acquisition Dobbs was earlier posted here by Steur.........

Mark, Thanks! I confused Hat Co with Hat Corp of America so Brent's hat could go back to the 1960s (based construction I think it's later 1960s or later) but I am not sure what hat company in Germany made it (I would have to compare labels). Mayser licensed directly with Stetson. Wegener licensed with Resistol.

I thought I had pictures of mine in this thread but it was in the Dobb's Diner....Mine has the same type of label as Brent's but my liner is sewn and not glued. I am using Stefan's photos here:

The leather foiling seems cleaner and better quality.

And the awesome red liner.....

And finally the hat itself a supple felt nice suede finish with good proportions and a 2 1/2 inch brim to the curl!! LOVE the "kettle finish" style brim on it!!!

So now it is here....and I thank Stefan again!!! I love this hat!!!!

Here is a fantastic W. Pless Wien Stiff Felt made for Ludwig Skrwanek Graz. It's probably Beaver felt so in S 39 to 44 price range. In 1928 7.1 Austrian Schillings (S) ~ 1 USD.

I was attracted by the name of the Austrian manufacturer and its high quality reputation. So it is, despite the fact that the hat that arrived has been somewhat neglected over the years

Patience, brushes and steam have brought it back to excellent condition

Habig Special Qualitat size 59 centimeters or 7 3/8 in US.

The felt is very soft with a fluffy finish and the rest of it is classy

These are the measurements of the Austrian Homburg: the curled brims are at 5.5 cm., the ribbon is 5.5 cm. and the open crown is 14.5 centimeters.

The Habig is elegant and classic with a hint of old Vienna even though it was sold in Linz

Luckily some of the paper label is still present. It's my feeling that BGH was the source of much of the early 1940s and earlier no company mark Wool Stiff and Soft Felt Hats.

Matt, Thank you! Other than the two "Aquila" Stiff Felts there is only one other original BGH brand hat that I am aware of and it's also a Stiff Felt that belongs to Stadt- und Industriemuseum Guben.

I made a list of the WWII era and older no company brand Wool hats that might have been produced by BGH. I will update the list and send it to you again. From what I can remember you made a connection with the 3 gate / tower Guben coat of arms with one of the hats. There are also the similar paper labels. This "Dogma" brand Wool Soft Felt is a recent example. Did you see this hat?
