Panos, Thank you!Phenomenal! Color me green with envy!
Panos, Thank you!Phenomenal! Color me green with envy!
Just as an addition: It isn't 'flachrund' but 'flachrand' I think (in contrast to rolled-in/bent-in brims as with Homburg & Co).Indeed, I asked other people, and one of them told me, she thinks it's "mod." for "modischer". I answered the same: It could make sense because of the wording "Modehut" at the time. But then it would have to state "dunkler mod." instead of "dunkel". And even that would sound odd: dunkler modischer farbiger Haarhut.
And to do a little bit of graphology: The "m" is clear, but the following "o" doesn't appear anywhere else. In "Velour" down below the "o" is much different. Instead all the "a" from the same hand are open at the top, as is the letter behind the assumed "m". And compared to "farb." and "grün" it could also be an "r" - "mrde" or "mrd." / "made" or "mad." It's mysterious.
And by the way: What is "flachrund"? As I have come to know now "Orion" is not a shape, not a felt quality, not a question of features like lining. So, to be honest, we don't know anything about what this invoice is talking about : ) Only that hats of this name where produced in 1931. And that's great to know anyway.
Thank you, I'm really happy with this hat. Works great with heavy coats and fur. I can now understand, why people were willing to put some money on the table for such a hat!
Beautiful Topper in fantastic condition, Steve! The paper label reminds me of some others we've already connected, except that here the entries are next to each other. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the hats - but remember we do not know the source for this...Fritz Reuter Hoflieferant Düsseldorf, 57 cm possibly 1920s or earlier 1900s. From what I could find Fritz Reuter was a retailer so most likely sourced. It's in excellent condition and came with a Fritz Reuter Düsseldorf case.
Steve, everything about this hat is just incredibly wonderful and I can only agree with Panos: Even though it is certainly in the right and best hands, it makes me jealous.J. Heinr. Ita, "Extra" "Federlicht" , 56 cm, 90 grams, possibly mid 1930s. Fantastic light weight Blue Felt with a smooth finish that easily dry creases. The blue Sweatband and "ITA" mark are impressive.

Oh yes, you are right, the "check" above the letter is missing. So at least the Orion seems to be a Fedora.Just as an addition: It isn't 'flachrund' but 'flachrand' I think (in contrast to rolled-in/bent-in brims as with Homburg & Co).

Matt, Thanks again! I have to look into it. There weren't many Silk Top Hat companies in Germany.Beautiful Topper in fantastic condition, Steve! JHS "Extra" in black. Thick, heavy velour. Nice gloss that doesn't show in full in my pics. Generous proportions. Probably late 20s-early 30s
