Hey! You mean you're not into traditional Oktoberfest hats, like this ... !
On the contrary! I can't believe that spectacular lid was left behind; it's SPECIAL!

Lovely, Steve.Alpine style hat with underwelt edge by "Josef Pichler und Söhne, Graz".
Sold by "Breuninger Stuttgart", a still existing large menswear department store.
I'd date it with 40's, early 50's.
Oops!Harv, Thanks but that one belongs to Fastuni. It's a really fantastic Trachten style hat. Very high quality.
Spectacular lid, there, NewJ!! Talk about character! This one's GOT it!!!
Interesting profile, NJ. You'll get alot of shade under that!
Sent directly from my mind to yours

It's a Carpenters Hat. Zimmermann is Carpenter in German. Zimmermann Hüte are black Soft Felt Hats with wide brims. Lembert (Augsburg, Germany) are still in business today. The web site you posted is mine.
Thanks! At one time Lembert actually made both Fur and Wool Felt Stumpen / Hoods (at another location near Augsburg) in addition to finished hats. Now they only have about 10 employees but the Hat Factory is still totally intact. It's like stepping make 60 or more years in time. My guess is your hat is from the 1960s or later. Wool is commonly used for Traditional hats like this one. It might have come in both Wool and Fur options. They still make the Zimmermann Hut (second photo down on the left).

By the way I posted your hat on my site.
