Steve, I have to say that this is one of the best threads on the lounge. We carried Habig for many years until the factory shut down in 1990. I had no idea that they were sold in the USA that early on. Their velours were better than Borsalino any day. I still have some in stock but just odds and ends. We sold off most of them years ago.

Steven, Thanks! P. & C. Habig Wien was a great hat company. I sure wish they were still around today. I have found mention of them in American newspapers going back to the mid 1890s. When it came to Velours the Austrian makers were the kings. What is interesting is they were also known for very light weight Bowlers (Melone). By the way did you sell Habig Silk Top Hats (see article a page back) post 1975?

Pre WWII Schiebermütze, size 56cm. Manfred got edged out on this one but I thought it was worth showing the auction photos since these are rare.

The producing date of this cap is between 1920 - 1940. The liner pressure
shows a sütterlin writing, a simplified German handwriting that was popular, in that time periode. The sütterlin writing was banned in 1941.

Manfred, that EXTREMELY interesting! Thanks so much for posting this. I never knew that there was a different kind of German handwriting for about 20 years. My fiance's family is from Germany and some still live there. I have to ask them if they know about this.

Steve and Josh, thanks. If the grandpa or grandma, is born in 1920-1930 they must know that.
It's for the generation after 1940 hard to read. In that time periode most of the people used a feather with ink.
