I'm not referring to some moderately priced average quality hat you can find in most skiing regions for tourists, but I mean loden as would have been made specifically to be worn in nasty weather and hold up. The only type of wool felt capable of equalling fur felt in durability.
I'd like to have a good loden hat for outdoor use and I wonder if they are still being manufactured by a German or Austrian hatmaker, preferably actually made in Germany or Austria as I don't really want something which is made in China. I'm not too keen on vintage either, as they are probably fantastic but too hard to find. I'd rather just have a well made modern loden hat which I don't have to search ebay and classifieds for until I find it after months of waiting.

Thanks! I have to agree!

Zapf might ship to you but they only accept bank transfers and online options are limited. HutKoenig Regensburg doesn't do any online business. Faustmann is another option but they also require a bank transfer.

I am sure Dreispitz will have some additional information to add.

I am not sure what happened to Hutfabrik A. Peshel after WWII. My guess is it got absorbed into the Czech-Slovak state controlled TONAK. Neutitschein (now Novy Jicin) was pat of the Austrian Hungarian Empire up to WWI.
