Black, size 59cm probably early 1960s. All around super high quality and in great condition. Wegener detail work is some of the finest I have encountered.

modern Maysers

Yesterday I went to the Internet to find modern Mayser hats, as well as Wegener and Habig. The only good things I could find were the Mayser website, in German, and a Durham, North Carolina hat store called Hat Lounge (www.hatlounge.com). They had a Mayser model that I liked. Does anyone know anything about Hat Lounge, meaning do they have a good selection in the store? Also, where else can I survey curent Mayser, Wegener and other German manufacturers' products? English would be useful in case of actually ordering a hat. I'm afraid of placing an order for a fedora and getting a pink bridesmaid's bonnet. Or a reply saying "We read your message, but sir, why do you want to wallop your horse with a parachute?"

Mayser and Wegener are still in business. P. & C. Habig went out of business in the late 1980s. Barbara Habig (grand daughter) has a small line of designer hats sourced out of Italy (also designed a couple models for Mayser). If you want more info check my signature link below. Those Mayser prices are way high. Send me a PM with the model info/ size and might be able to help you out.

Great, I will send sometime this weekend. Many of those vintage Maysers you buy are dynamite, and not finding them on the sites, thought I'd go for new. I admire the stying of one of the models. I think I go for the modern European styles more than the modern American ones. In other words, I personally prefer Borsalino, Hornet Hats (Christy?), RMR and now Mayser to modern Stetson, I just think they look cooler. Maybe it's the narrower hat band, I don't know.

Thanks! This is one that turned out better than I was expecting.

Side note: Mayser used matching black thread to stitch the liner and hide visability.

Here is a better photo. This is definitely my current favorite.

That hat is perfect in every way. Looking at the finish just screams quality. The bow is the perfect color and width for the hat, and the crease really makes the Velour pop out. Perfect.:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Josh, Thanks! I have no idea of the source of the felt but it is of really high quality. The only info I could find was that Hans Baumgärtner owned a shop in Fürth (home town of Henry Kissinger) that closed in the 1970s and he was very old man at that time. The seller said the hat was found in old farm house in Eggolsheim, Bavaria around 1979.

Here are a bunch of old German, Austrian and Danish Actor (wearing hats) post cards. Most of from the 1920s to early 40s. It is interesting to note the crown heights and taper.

Great photos, Mayser, thanks.

Interesting how some have traditional fedoras, others are wearing typical alpine style hats, not to mention homburgs, straws and flat caps. There are some cool cats in there!

Ive been trying to get that bash down pat on some of my hats. Its my favorite 20's/30's bash. The front pinches kind of make it look like "Mickey Mouse" ears from the front. The hat has to have a pretty tall crown though to do that kind of bash.

Dieter, Thanks! By the way I sent you a PM.

Dan, There was high style in both Germany and Austria at that time. Very similar to what you see in Italy and France but with more production output (ie hat / felt factories).

Josh, Yes that sure is a great look. BTW I was thinking of slipping in one of Mario's photos. :)
