100,000 AMERICAN HATS SOLD; Where It Was Believed Only the Foreign Ones Would Sell.

Interesting article from 1912 but hard to believe they matched the quality and feel of Austrian velour.

Zapf and black eye

Do you know Bavarian finger wrestling? Be careful if you ever have the opportunity to act as a second for the contestants!

Here is some material on the kind of sport from another contest. Yesterday was pretty similar. Do note the hats:

Brabant Homburg

Brabant Homburg, size 59cm. This one is probably early to mid 60s. Has some really nice black felt and sweatband. Not sure about the Brabant connection but appears to be German made.

F. G. M. Försterhut

Heather green (very thick felt) F. G. M. Försterhut, size 57 (fits like long oval 58cm). The tapered crown is about 6 inches open and the felt ribbon close to 3 inches. The company patch is missing. Probably late 1950s early 1960s. I am very happy about this find. :)

Amazing, where you dig them all out, Steve!

By the way. Förster translates as game warden.

Dieter, I got it from a German lady that owns an antique store in Denver, CO. She said she got it from a friend in Germany. I have a Wegener Förster but this one is older and has more extreme dimensions. I really couldn't get a good photo of it though.
