Anton Pichler K.u.K. Hof - Hutfabrikant Graz, Pocket Hat Brush, 6 inches wide, probably early 1900s. I am thinking this was some type of promotional item that came with a hat. It's only about 1/4 of inch thick so could easily fit into a coat pocket. The K.u.K. Hof - Hutfabrikant distinction probably means it's WWI era or older.

Steve, you've posted so many to die for hats and a great deal of wonderful ephemera many of us would love to have as part of our collection. But that is really something to behold. I'm envious, but glad it has found it's rightful home. Congrats.

Emanuel Gittel Wien, 58cm probably early 1960s. This is my first Emanuel Gittel Wien find. The hat is well made and the machine form and dimensions are of the time period. I don't have any information on the company other than a listing in the Austrian Hat Industry Guide (1926) .

Hut Braun Teisendorf, Germany, October 14, 2017

Hut Braun is located in the Teisendorf, Germany which is just west of Salzburg, Austria. I would like to thank ErWeSa (Wolfgang) who posts on the FL occasionally for setting up this fantastic visit. Hut Braun is a primary producer of Trachten Hats but also makes Soft and Stiff Felt Dress Hats. Lothar Braun the owner is a very personable fellow with much knowledge of European Hat Industry. Lothar has obtained machinery from famous former factories such as G. Panizza & C. Ghiffa, Italy. His small scale factory is filled with all kinds of Hat Machinery. I would like thank Lothar and his wife Gisela Braun for the fantastic tour of their Hat Factory and Shop. Here is a link to a (translated) newspaper article that will give you more insight into their operation.

I would highly recommend paying Hut Braun a visit if you are in the Salzburg, Austria area. There website is down at the moment but I will provide the link for the future and I have also included their Facebook page.

"Metro", 57cm, Wool, probably early 1960s. I assume this hat is German made but there are no words on the paper label. I purchased this hat from the seller of 1930s "NEUHEIT" Velour. It's machine formed and the Wool is a bit course but overall a good looking hat.

Even a 1960s wool hat in your collection is a joy to behold. This is one nice hat, the details of the construction are super.

The Gittel is a nice looking hat, Steve, but I must say I'm quite taken by the shape of this Metro. Might be a wool felt, but looks to have fine quality.

Mike, Thanks! I find them on Ebay and other online sources. I also try to keep in touch with people that I have purchased hats from and that sometimes leads to more finds. Are you near Vienna? There has to be some great hats looking to be found there. This E. Gittel Wien is later but it's a brand I didn't have. I have a feeling it was sourced but can't say for sure. The quality of the workmanship is great.

Stefan, Thanks! Yes it's well put together with good quality components. The Wool is on the heavy side so I will give it a run tomorrow!

It's time to dust off the Time Machine and get to that exhibition in '52, Steve. Boy, if only. Super postcard. Thanks for sharing.

Rheinhut Superior "Wildleder", 59cm probably mid to later 1950s. The felt color, finish and hand are fantastic. It's a sporty mix of Dress and Trachten Hat styles. Rheinische Hutfabrik was located in Neersen, Germany which is close by Düsseldorf.

The shop "A. Keudel" in Hagen that sold the hat was originally a hat factory. (1902)
