German & Austrian Hutmachers

it kinda looks like the shape of the Borsalino logo, but that's not possible with that sticker on the inner felt?

Thanks guys!

Mayserwegener, the sweatband is 4.5 cm wide, taped at the ends (the little bow were the ends meet, has come off).
No better photo of the tip sticker possible... the writing is crumbling away even more.
I can only clearly recognize the outline of the logo, but not the writing. But maybe this here helps:

Best Regards

The sweat width is less than what you would see from Mayser hats of the early to mid 1950s. I have a late 50s Mayser - Hut Seidel München Homburg. The paper label is actually marked Hut Seidel München which shows the strong Mayser connection.

I still think there is a chance that it was made by Mayser. The paper logo format is some what similar to some early 50s Mayser ones plus the historic connection between Mayser and Hut Seidel München.

The crown tip patch design doesn't ring a bell. It might be worth looking for Hut Seidel München logos.

Yes it has a German word (Farbe) on the paper label. As I mentioned the paper label format is some what similar to what Mayser used. Here is a 1930s made for German market Echter Borsalino crown tip patch.

Fastuni, I am now positive your hat was made by Mayser. I checked and found a brown mid 1950s Mayser that has the same Farbe (Color) number (506). Also the number (Model?) to the left of Farbe has the same number (6) of digits that Mayser used consistently in the 1950s.

Manfred,

Thanks!

The Model (?) # to the left of Farbe also has the same number of digits (6) that Mayser used. Also it appears 5XX Mayser Fabre numbers are used for different shades of brown (for example above brown Mayser - H.S. Homburg is Farbe 524). All black hats are Farbe 1. I don't think I have that Mayser Hut Seidel München anymore.

My guess is your Mayser Parabuntal is from 1990s. It's a real beauty!

WOW!!! Awesome, Steve!!! Thanks so much for posting this. I LOVE the early soft hats with curled brims. I have to wonder if these brims were soft like the soft hats from the American manufactures of the 19-teens or if the brims on these late 1890's hats were quite stiff.

Josh, Thanks! Weiche is "soft" but my guess is the brim stiffness varied based on the style. I believe these soft felt styles go back to the late 1800s. I have photos from that time period of people (Austria and Germany) wearing such hats.

P. & C. Habig Wien Special Zefir, size 58cm, 100 grams, early to mid 1950s, very good condition. Specially made for Carl Kellner, Hamburg, Germany. I really like the trademark Habig bow design and contrasting brim binding. Also fantastic pliable light weight - light gray felt.
