The elder George Eakle's 1954 death certificate.

And... an obituary from The Philadelphia Enquirer, July 14, 2003 for the younger George.

"He went to bed without a hat, but that's about it." Love that quote.

George I. Eakle began in 1910, and from what little info I could find, closed in the 1980s.

Located at 1534 Market St. Philadelphia, but they look to have moved to 1628 Market St. at some time in the businesses lifetime.

I'll start with this 1910s Long Hair "Genuine Beaver " The liner is iridescent and color shifts from green to purple.

Love that liner - I wish more contemporary hatters would go for dark liners. No idea why white is such a standard - mine end up grubby and yellowed from ma baldy hied. The few I have with dark liners never show such marks.

Hat is a blue/aqua heather finish. Color is hard to photograph properly

I was thinking so, but am stumped by the circle size sticker and the stitched sweat seam. Possibly mid to late 30s?

I think the size sticker and label support that. Also, there are examples of the LOTXXXX imprinted on sweatbands in hats that are not branded Stetson. No theory on what's up with that.

Josh and I were going over the lot, and he thinks Stetson, but is also has early Lee/Stylepark looks too. Definately an interesting piece

These are wonderful looking hats all, Justin. Eakle seems to have had a particular love for heather felts. That alone earns them a gold medal in my book!

I agree completely. There were a few standard finished examples, but a good amount looked to have unique features. Love 'em all
