That says it all. Mama knows best!:)

That makes me smile. The night I met my husband at an acquaintance's Christmas party, I also met my future mother in law. After about 45 minutes of me talking with her son, she wandered over, (possibly inebriated) hugged me, and announced to the room that I was her future daughter in law. Not even knowing his last name at this point, I just looked at her like she was mad. Five years later, I just roll my eyes at this memory. Apparently, Mama did know best... lol

that is hilarious. sort of like our son. I was always fielding phone calls for him with him in the background waving his hands. Never once did I bend till my DIL of 12 years called. I actually told her he was just scared and to hang in there. Sure enough. I have no idea why I did that till this day. They even look so much alike.
Mamas are good for something besides cooking. lol

Dames.. Broads.. Surprisingly I'm much more okay with that one. It may not be flattering, but at least it doesn't have the cold, scientific connotations. And it does conjure up those images of some femme fatale awaiting her Private Eye in a darkened office. Much more romantic.;)

When Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were making the movie "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane", a reporter was interviewing Bette Davis and he asked why they were making the movie. Bette Davis replied "What - we're just a couple of old broads trying to make a buck". Shortly thereafter, Bette Davis received a handwritten note from Joan Crawford:

Dear Miss Davis:
In future, please refrain from referring to me as an old broad.

Sincerly yours,
Joan Crawford

Also, rumor was that Bette Davis had only Coke Machines installed on the set. That was during the period of Crawford's marriage to Al Steele, CEO of Pepsi Cola.

You gotta love 'em! By the way, there is a "copy" of that "note" in both of their biographies.

My wife is the ideal lady for me. We have known each other all of our lives. My wife was born in 1931 and I in 1932. One of my earlier memories is when I was about 4 or so, a couple of "big" ole boys got me down and were pouring dirt in my mouth. Suddenly, this tiny whirling dervish came from no where, beat them all up and sent them home crying. As the story goes, one went and told his mother that that mean old Irene beat him up and the mother said, "that sweet tiny little thing, I'm giving you a spanking for lying". In those times, my wife's mother each day sent her from the house in starched and ironed ruffled little dresses. That lasted about 5 minutes and she always went home from a hard day of scrub baseball an absolute mess. In the little southern town where we grew up, there weren't enough nearby kids our age to make up two ball teams, so we played scrub ball.

We went together in high school (from the 8th grade)-my wife graduated in 1947 and I graduated in 1948. We both went to Columbia undergrad (Barnard(sp) for my wife -same school, different name) and Columbia Law School and we are both lawyers. We were married in June, 1954 and this June, have been married 55 years. I am very careful not to forget the date, because even though she is still a tiny little thing, she just might beat me up. Even though I am 6'1" and she is about 5'3" and weighs about 102 pounds. When you read that in cold hard print, it looks very dull. But it wasn't. And, it still isn't.
