Over there...
Gambling holds no fascination for me. I don't dislike it or anything; it just doesn't give me thrill. Maybe it's because I grew up in Nevada and it was all around me. I guess I grew up thinking it was so ordinary...

When I was very young, my parents would take us to the restaurants in the casinos for dinner. The food was good, plentiful, and cheap. I still enjoy the atmosphere in casinos, probably because of those early associations. But the games still don't do it for me.

Hit me !

There have been a few gamblers in my family, such as my great-grandfather who owned a laundry business in NYC that was a city block long and lost it to his gambling habit.
I played a lot of Blackjack a few years ago. I was a card-counter and did fairly well but I didn't like the big money swings and grinding out the game waiting for a lop-sided deck to use my expertise.
Now I play poker and have a lot of fun. I go to Atlantic City with my wife but we just play the nickel slots so we can be together. Its still fun.

When I lived in San Diego, CA, it was a yearly trip to Laughlin, NV (just south of Vegas) for a night of hitting the slots.
I knew my limit of spending, had fun, and never felt bad about losing a few bucks. I've been to Laughlin, NV a total of 3-4 times.

When I moved back to PA, Atlantic City was just a short bus trip away. My mom, my sister and myself went for a girls day out. Again, I knew my limit, had fun, and didn't feel bad about losing a few bucks. I have been to AC a total of once.

Living in PA, they built a casino in my "backyard". (I have blog on myspace about it.) It's been open about a year now and I went there once.

I can take it or leave it. I like my money too much to go to any casino on a regular basis, but going out once and awhile with friends with a limit of 20 bucks is usually a good time.

but....I do play the lottery every week.

A family history story.

There is a story about the Italian side of my family and why they came to the United States.

It's said that my family owned vineyards in Italy and lost them in a gambling bet.

Who knows....I could have had my face on a wine bottle. lol
