Cool - thanks for that. I work about 5 minutes away from Brick Lane, I'll have a look-see tomorrow.

I had a look on eBay, and I did find some that were similar to what I'm looking for, but it is either the sizes or colour that is off... At least I know what they are called now, so I'll keep checking back!

they're at the top end of brick lane... the end furthest away from aldgate east tube. rockit is mainly 60s - 90s stuff but each shop has at least one rail of 40s/50s. don't be put off if you can't find it. it will be in there somewhere !

gab shirt and tie ?

bogieshirt.jpg

notice in this photo of Humph that he appears to be wearing a gabardine shirt with a tie. you can tell it's a gab by the give away saddlestitch around the borders, and the fact that it doesn't sit very well (gabardine shirts have no collar 'stand' the bit on a dress shirt that looks like a rim).... which brings me to my question....is it 'acceptable' to wear a tie with a classic loop collar gab shirt ? i'm not looking for the textbook answer, but would like to hear your opinions.

It's not gab but I often wear a soft cotton "sports/casual type" shirt with a tie. I have a modern Arrow Brand button down in white that certainly wasn't meant for a tie. It just works (to me anyway;) ). I like having a very soft collared shirt paired with a tie. It's very comfortable yet has that touch of formal.

New Gabardine Shirts

I've been looking for quite a while for a vintage looking Gaberdine Shirts. AKA: 1940's-50's.

Does anyone make these repros today?

The vintage ones are very hard to find in my size without stains and tears/wear....

I'm curious to hear a review on Swanky's. How is the quality? How does the sizing run?
Swanky's stuff is good! Definitely worth checking out. The owners really are into the stuff they're selling, and it shows.

FT: I'll take your recommendation. Swanky's shirts are now on my short list of upcoming purchases. I'd like to get the white long sleeve pictured and one of the short sleeve cable knits.

Oh man...the cable knits are AMAZING repros. There aren't many folks making those, so I'd say they're worth the $$. As far as sizing, they seem true to size to me. Not huge modern sizing.

I use to see these a lot in vintage shop. They would go for $15. Now I see them for $50 especally the loope collar shirts with the flap pockets. Is this because they are becoming rare to find or is this inflation.
