Not the beer for GIs - but a lot of british soldiers and pilots knew this one back in may 45.

The label has been re-design many times since, without loosing its basic design even to this day.

Although it's not that old, it certainly gets top marks for getting in the spirit of the "old times" thing and that's Spitfire Ale from Kent. And they have a brilliant ad campaign:

Try is next time you're in the UK, not a bad ale either.

Being a graduate of Kent State University in Ohio (yes, that Kent State), I can verify that hundreds of thousands of Luftlagers and Spitbeers have been downed in the many drinking establishments in downtown Kent over the years! Ah, college life in the trenches!!

I found a bottle that STILL had it's label at a training base here in AZ from WW2, it has a label of ACME BEER! Just watch out for the roadrunner.

Hight Flying Beer

If you want the ultimate WWII beer story, look no further then the Spitfires that flew to Normandy with kegs under there wings! They were even given an official designation, Mod. XXX. Unfortunately the Ministry of Excise stepped in, saying that export duties were not being paid. On a side note, the Brit troops got some cold beer for a change, when the Spitfire would zoom up to altitude then descend rapidly, cooling the beer, the way it should be!

They did so for the same reason everything else was OD green. Flat painted and non-reflective. The enemy couldn't spot 'em as easy as the shiny, sometimes almost chrome beer cans of the day.
This forum is great. I didn't even realize that they had cans of beer during WW-II, let alone OD ones.
