Hey! Chaps, Can anyone put a date on this Dunn & Co, seller not sure, said it could be forties.
The brim is 2 1/16 at front & back and 2 inches at sides. The crown is 5" open.
The rim of hat is almost like a bowler but not as stiff, if you no what i mean.
Here's some pics

PS. I'll cry if its 30s

Michael, It's says "British Manufacture" on the line so could be a English company. There might also be UK Hatter Maker's Union stamp behind the sweatband. I have some old G.A. Dunn & Co. Liner Stamps that were used by Austrian / Czech companies. There are also some hats posted here.

Thanks Bob, have some leads to follow-up. The Elizans mentioned something about the G. A. being dropped after G. A.s death in 1939 on liners & sweats...... so does that make this hat 30s?

My name is Steve. :) I am focused on vintage German and Austrian Hat Companies so I can help with G.A. Dunn & Co. hats made in Austria and Czechoslovakia/Austria/Germany. That guy didn't believe a G.A. Dunn & Co. hat could be made in Czechoslovakia so not sure about anything he posted.

the combo of narrow brim with wide band is archetypal in 1930s British hats, and dropped rapidly out of fashion in the 40s.

The graphics, in particular the style of the sweatband stamp.

The prominent "GA" in the logo, and on both sweat and liner. After George Arthur's death in 1939 the "GA" was usually rendered much smaller or dropped altogether. If it was used in one position it was often dropped in the other.

Oh, and the The fact I have basically the same hat in black and the previous owner bought it before the war! ;)

Depends on what you want to know. Very good looking homburg hat in what looks to be the original box. By the tip liner and the use of the GA Dunn (instead of just Dunn&Co) and the look of the box I'd say pre-war.

That's more difficult to say, but I would guess the latter part of the thirties. The sweatband is not stamped in relief, which was done on earlier hats. Looks to be in great condition (the onionskin/oilskin covering - a sort of cellofane - on the liner tip seems to be undamaged, which is important). I take the number on the size label to mean 6 7/8, which is on the small side, That lowers the price significantly, because the larger sizes are far more rare (and searched after). Black hats (and certainly homburgs) are fairly common and not in as high demand as fedoras/trilbies. Homburgs in other colours fetch higher prices.
