Greetings all,

Does anyone here have a G-8 jacket? I'm curious to find out more on them.

I've always liked the way they looked, especially the similarity to the Raiders-type jackets. Never much cared for the elastic on the other WWII-type jackets either...

Ahhh, I see... That is why I wasn't able to find out too much about it.

Oh well... I think the Wested is much cooler anyhow.

Yeah Avirex or one of'm came up with it. Check Aero, Real McCoys New Zealand or if you want to stay US Flight Suit/Gibson & Barnes for flight jackets. Also Lost Worlds makes a decent G-1 and B-3.

Matei,

My "vintage" Aero jacket of choice is their Cossack:

G8 jacket

BT and Matei,

Pedantically, there IS a G8 jacket - the 'Jacket, Suit, Flying, Winter' - otherwise known as the WEP from the specification MIL-S-18342 C (WEP). As its name suggests it was the top half of a nylon flying suit issued between the 1950s and the 1980s. I don't think you mean that one.

I had one I got off ebay, it was a neat looking jacket but very heavy and not cold enough where I live to wear it much. I sold it to a friend who uses it when he rides his motorcycle. From what I heard it was never a military issue jacket, even though it's sometimes promoted as such. This site promotes it as being from the 20s but I believe that is not true, but I'm not a jacket expert to say for sure.

Bellytank, have you seen this site? What do you make of their claim?

However the zippers on the sleeves and the extra diamond shaped pieces on the elbows gives it an interesting look.

Aero Cossack Jacket

I won one of these with very little wear on eBay two weeks ago for $149. I was the only bidder, which amazed me. It is a fantastic jacket, heavy and cut to be worn snug, compares quite favorably to my vintage jackets. I'll post pictures later.

Fedoralover-
their claim is rubbish I guess, since there was no such jacket in USN issue although from a visual standpoint, I do like the look of the jacket.
Seeing the jacket in person and wearing it may be a different case
But- once you've owned top notch leather, there's just no going back...
The style is reminiscent of a couple of WW2 style jackets used by the Navy and Army AAF.
